  • Purpose of Job
    • Administer, monitor, and document the prescribed course of treatment from the radiation oncologist.
  • Job Requirements
    • Education
      • Bachelor's of Science obtained through an approved Radiation Therapy certification program required.
      • Satisfactory completion of annual mandatory education requirement.

    • Experience
      • Minimum of 1 year on-the-job experience to obtain thorough knowledge of departmental policies, and procedures required.

    • License/Certifications
      • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
      • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification in Radiation Therapy required.

    • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
      • Excellent interpersonal, and customer service skills necessary to provide service excellence through verbal, and written communication.

  • Essential Job Functions
    • Essential Functions I

      • Assesses/implements procedures, and protocols for accurate radiation therapy delivery, and care by the radiation therapists as prescribed by the physician.
        • Routinely reviews setup methodology for accurate treatment delivery as prescribed by the MD, and ensures routine quality assurance practices by the radiation therapists.
        • Encourages proactive review of treatment information in the chart, and Impac system to minimize delay of treatment delivery to the patient.
        • Develops, and communicates appropriate policies, and procedures designed to offer consistency in treatment delivery from each therapist.

      • Exemplifies, and encourages effective communication skills.
        • Facilitates communication dialogue of the therapist to, and about patients with involved individuals to minimize miscommunications.
        • Encourages display of respect from the radiation therapists with others through attentive listening displayed by direct eye contact, and body language.
        • Monitors the interaction of radiation therapists with patients, and others for demonstrative courtesy, and professionalism.

      • Demonstrates appropriate understanding, and support of billing practices.
        • Ensures timely charge entry into Cerner daily.
        • Reviews charge entry reports.
        • Reviews, and creates policies to govern expected charging practices according to most recent guidelines.

      • Coordinates clinical scheduling, and addresses related concerns for the radiation therapists.
        • Prepares work schedules for radiation therapists to maximize the clinic efficiency.
        • Prioritizes tasks daily for the radiation therapists to adapt to the demands of the clinical schedule.
        • Implements dynamic, and flexible scheduling measures to ensure expected productivity with the radiation therapists.

      • Facilitates teamwork with co-workers.
        • Champions initiatives outlined in the strategic plan.
        • Assures cooperative measures are taken during workday for fair distribution of tasks.
        • Fulfills clinical obligations before personal convenience.

      • Practices professional judgment behaviors in an orderly, and rational manner.
        • Makes appropriate decisions based on gathered facts, and demonstrates an advanced level of clinical skills, and abilities in resolving complicated treatment issues.
        • Demonstrates ability to analyze whether treatment data information matches prescription, and addresses concerns in a timely, and constructive manner with involved parties.
        • Maintains composure with new or difficult situations.

      • Demonstrates ability to promote respect, and cooperation among therapists.
        • Addresses appropriate person with concerns related to clinical duties, and responsibilities in a professional manner.
        • Expects, and follows departmental guidelines, and procedures as outlined.
        • Reports any appropriate clinical updates or changes appropriately in a timely manner.

      • Adheres to departmental policies, and procedures.
        • Attends mandatory in-services, and continuing education programs as mandated by policies, and procedures.
        • Provides appropriate care to the patient to ensure understanding, and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the "Age Specific Criteria".
        • Communicates all treatment errors, and patient injuries to physician, and physics staff as soon as discovered.

      • Issues work effort feedback in a timely, and appropriate manner.
        • Communicates appropriate comments to the therapists, and co-workers, which foster better working relationships.
        • Openly, and consistently rewards, and recognizes co-workers for job performance.
        • Addresses concerns with co-workers immediately, and directly for the purpose of improved working relationships.
        • Responsible to initiate the call back system for Code Triage events or drills.
