Job Description

  • Purpose of Job
    • Performs and assists with diagnostic imaging procedures using ultrasound technology.
  • Job Requirements
    • Education
      • Graduation from an accredited Ultrasound Technology program required.
      • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) registered or board eligible required.

    • Experience
      • 1 year preferred general or OB/GYN experience.

    • License/Certifications
      • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential of the Abdomen (AD) and OB/GYN required within one year of date of hire.
      • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

    • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
      • Strong interpersonal communication skills to interact with customers, patients, family, physicians, co-workers and hospital personnel.
      • Ability to perform numerous tasks at once, prioritize workload and organize workflow.
      • Must be knowledgeable of high level disinfection processes.
      • Must be able to follow established Universal Standard and Radiation Safety precautions.
      • Position requires flexibility to accommodate fluctuation in daily schedule, including but not limited to overtime, irregular hours or on-call responsibilities.

        • Identifies each patient by ID band verification and birth date and name.
        • Keeps up on Departmental policies/ protocols. Knows how to look up administrative policies.
        • Follows ACR guidelines and departmental protocols for all exams.
        • Performs exams as priority dictates.
        • Critiques each exam for technical and positional accuracy and makes appropriate corrections if necessary.
        • Check all exams with Radiologist and discuss end results.

      • Workflow Management with heightened focus on efficiency.
        • Provides management of department workflow and patient exam flow.
        • Understand and Support the direction of the department and it's workflow
        • Review orders for clinical and demographic consistency and verifies accuracy before the exam is done.
        • Willfully assists ALL physicians, patients, and coworkers as needed at all times.
        • Communicate always with team members about changes in workflow or scheduling.
        • Communicate exam information and patient Status changes with coworkers.
        • Maintain awareness of ongoing exams and assist or take over when needed for coworkers
        • Be in the department and ready to work at the start of scheduled shift (clock in and then get ready).
        • Have processes set in place to allow everyone to leave on time at the end of the day if possible.
        • Have all exam reports, history and films put together with the completed exam information to the radiologist to review.
        • Willing and able to fill in shifts or trade days when needed.

      • RIS/PACS/Lawson/Outlook/Angel/mhsintranet.
        • Maintain a working knowledge of Cerner.
        • Maintain working knowledge of PACS.
        • Maintain working knowledge of Outlook and mhsintranet.
        • Maintain working knowledge of Lawson (Employee Self Service).
        • Consistently uses Exam Management for order modification and to document comments.
        • Starts and completes own exams correctly and in a timely manner.
        • Show a working knowledge of Order View/Entry capabilities.
        • Consistently uses the Online Worklist to monitor orders and order status.
        • Verify correct images matched with order.
          • Resolves exceptions when needed.

      • Department Policy/Procedures.
        • Ensures proper patient identification on all films to comply with department policies and procedures
        • Willingly seeks opportunity to provide patient care, or assist others as needed.
        • Shows knowledge of department guidelines through responsible behavior/actions.
        • Maintains updated ARDMS license, BLS and other assigned mandatory compliance.
        • Ensures that call reports and/or other specifications are followed through.
        • Report issues/concerns to Lead or Supervisor as soon as possible and provide assistance with resolution/follow-up.

      • Clinical Enrichment.
        • Provides and monitors on the job training per Methodist College Standards.
        • Maintains professional and courteous relationship with students and instructors.
        • Provide leadership and guidance for students' education clinical experience.

    • Essential Functions II

      • Participates in mandatory in-services and/or CE programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by management.
