  • Purpose of Job
    • Responsible for creating and maintaining custom software applications for the cancer center.
  • Job Requirements
    • Education
      • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) required.
      • Associate's Degree in Information Technology or related field preferred.

    • Experience
      • Minimum of 1-2 years experience creating and maintaining custom Microsoft Access applications required.
      • Project management experience preferred.

    • License/Certifications
      • N/A

    • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
      • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
      • Proficiency with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), and SQL.
      • Ability to demonstrate technical proficiency in resolving Microsoft Access database performance issues.
      • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally, and in writing.

  • Essential Job Functions
    • Essential Functions I

      • Creates, alters, maintains, and deletes custom applications for the purposes of warehousing, mining, analyzing, and reporting patient data.

      • Creates new and customized patient applications as requested by Cancer Center management.
        • Understands client requirements, and how they translate into application features.
        • Collaborates with users to set specifications for new applications.
        • Designs creative prototypes according to specifications.
        • Writes high quality code to program complete applications within deadlines.
        • Performs testing before launch.
        • Troubleshoots, and debugs applications.
        • Evaluates existing applications to reprogram, update, and add new features.

      • Maintains knowledge of current software and hardware technologies,
        • Remains proficient with Microsoft products, and hardware technologies.
        • Stays abreast of system wide network changes, and software patches that may impact or pertain to departments.
        • Acts as primary contact to the business for software upgrades, testing, and maintenance.

      • Serves as an IT resource for MECC.
        • Trains and presents technical data, and analysis to non-technical audiences.
        • Functions as a resource for problems relating to custom application functionality, identifies source of problem, and enacts measures to prevent recurrence.
        • Communicates problem, and resolution to management, and end users.
        • Develops technical documentation to accurately represent application design, and code.

      • Utilizes project management skills to accomplish custom application project objectives by planning, and evaluating project requests, and activities.
        • Collaborates with the end user to determine the scope of the project.
        • Estimates resources required to complete the project.
        • Develops a realistic timeline, and communicates that timeline to the end user.
        • Reviews project list with Service Executive to prioritize appropriately.
        • Monitors project outcomes, and supports the end user ongoing.
        • Collaborates with Information Technology for implementation of projects, and awareness.

      • Promotes a culture of safety.
        • Monitors on an ongoing basis environmental safety issues and appropriate interventions.
        • Assures completion and follow-up on Variance Reports and Patient/Family concerns.
        • Participates in identification, analysis, reduction and evaluation of risk issues.
        • Reports issues/trends to Service Executive.

      • Participates in mandatory in-services and/or CE programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by management.
