  • Purpose of Job
    • Responsible for operations and supervision of managers to assure quality outcomes, compliance with standards and performance improvement.
  • Job Requirements
    • Education
      • Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
      • Bachelor's Degree required.
      • Master's Degree in Nursing or Administration preferred.

    • Experience
      • Management experience preferred.

    • License/Certifications
      • Current valid RN License, valid compact multistate license to work, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.
      • Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardio Life Support (ACLS) Certification required.
      • Current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification preferred.
      • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.

    • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
      • Requires knowledge of current professional nursing concepts & principles, nursing unit operation on a 24 hour basis.
      • Requires a working knowledge of management concepts and principles, and the ability to apply, but not limited to the following: supervision, delegation, staff development.
      • Requires skills in the operation and use of nursing techniques and supporting equipment and materials, communication, training and orienting new staff.
      • Requires the ability to conduct meetings and insure information is given to the appropriate staff, communicate both orally and in writing to staff, other managers, guests, and administration.
      • Requires the ability to identify problems and other well thought out solutions to those problems.
      • Requires the ability to write and communicate proposals regarding the management of the dept. or other nursing problems.
      • Ability to learn and adapt to change and to communicate those changes in a supportive manner to all staff.

  • Essential Job Functions

    • Ensures safe delivery of patient centered care on all units.
      • Demonstrates ability to identify opportunities for and give individualized customer service/patient care according to customer/patient needs, and Standards of Practice
      • Ensures age specific competencies are in place.

    • Develops and implements a long-range plan and key initiatives for the Process which are congruent with Patient Care Division goals and the Hospital mission, vision and core values.
      • Participates in development and implementation of hospital systems which support the structure, process and outcomes of patient care delivery.
      • Participates in the development and implementation of the Division plan for the provision of care.
      • Develops and implements long and short term program goals and objectives for the Process.
      • Establishes budgetary guidelines by which goals can be achieved.
      • Ongoing evaluation of program and service goal accomplishments.
      • Participates in continuing education and remains current on any internal and external issues as related to the assigned process.
      • Marketing of programs and services.

    • Ensures compliance with appropriate standards relating to operations, safety and patient care as promulgated by regulatory agencies, accrediting commissions, professional associations, and Hospital board and administration.
      • Reviews and revises procedures and policies which assure regulatory compliance and consistency between departments and services.
      • Ensures compliance with safe and efficient use of equipment and other material resources.
      • Participates in professional organizations and attends standard related seminars.
      • Provides direction in the development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services within the process.
      • Develops and maintains a system to assure job competencies are met.

    • Ensures management of human and fiscal resources of programs/services are within budgetary guidelines or within acceptable budget variances.
      • Prepares a realistic budget within established guidelines.
      • Identifies and addresses areas of variance from budget.
      • Assesses cost impact of decisions.
      • Develops and utilizes cost saving alternatives.
      • Maintains a master scheduling and staffing plan which is budget based.
      • Monitors the level of variance of budgeted FTEs and takes corrective action.
      • Maintains an effective system for management of supplies and equipment for the Process.
      • Participates in ongoing Value Analysis of products related to patient care delivery.

    • Assumes accountability for the quality of care and customer satisfaction within the assigned process to demonstrate Continuous Quality Improvement.
      • Selects and implements specific performance improvement indicators based on trends and patterns.
      • Maintains a process to ensure that data analysis, intervention planning and implementation that is congruent with the overall Hospital plan for Performance Improvement.
      • Applies statistical principles when monitoring and analyzing indicators.
      • Ensures that appropriate actions are taken in response to analysis of data.
      • Monitors the outcomes of the specific risk management indicators on an ongoing and annual basis.
      • Identifies and analyzes potential or emerging customer service problems/needs and implements preventative measures.

    • Maintains a safe work environment that prevents and/or reduces risks to the organization, patients, and personnel.
      • Selects and implements specific risk management indicators based on trends and patterns.
      • Maintains a process to ensure that data analysis, intervention planning and implementation occurs.
      • Applies statistical principles when monitoring and analyzing indicators.
      • Ensures that appropriate actions are taken in response to analysis of data.
      • Monitors the outcomes of the specific risk management indicators on an ongoing and annual basis.

      • Meets with college clinical instructors on a periodic basis to coordinate and evaluate student clinical experiences.

    • Maintains a collaborative relationship with Medical Staff.
      • Participates in Medical Staff committees.
      • Solicits physician input and shares information regarding key initiatives and care delivery structure, process and outcomes.
      • Follows through on Medical Staff concerns regarding care process and care delivery structures.
