  • Purpose of Job
    • Perform and assist with diagnostic imaging.
  • Job Requirements
    • Education
      • High school graduate or General Educational Development (GED).
      • Prefer college courses in anatomy, biology, and physiology.

    • Experience
      • Four years direct experience in Emergency Departments (EDS).
      • One year experience in echocardiography.

    • License/Certifications
      • Required Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS).
      • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
      • Registry eligible or registered Cardiovascular Technologist.
      • If Registered Nurse, current Iowa license.

    • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
      • Non-invasive Emergency Departments (EDS) techniques and procedures.
      • Electroencephalogram (EEG) and advanced Emergency Departments (EDS) procedures.
      • Infection control and safety procedures.
      • Basic and advanced cardiology.
      • Medical terminology.
      • Perform electrocardiograms, cardiac and thallium stress testing, holter monitors, cystometrograms, uroflowmeter testing, electroencephalograms, echocardiograms and other Emergency Departments (EDS) procedures.
      • Basic use and maintenance of Emergency Departments (EDS) equipment.
      • Ability to promote positive relations interacting with patients and other customers.
      • If Registered Nurse (RN), ability to administer sedation for Electroencephalogram (EEG's) as directed by physician.

    • Essential Functions I

      • Promotes positive relations when interacting with patients, visitors, families, physicians, customers and co-workers

        • Knows and demonstrates 6 step customer complaint management process.

      • If Registered Nurse (RN), ability to administer sedation for Electroencephalogram (EEG's) as directed by physician.

      • Performs echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), stress echos, electrocardiograms, electroencephalograms, cardiac and thallium stress testing.
        • May perform holter monitoring and scanning, Electrocardiogram (EKG) telemetry checks, and any other Emergency Departments (EDS) procedure as necessary including outreach echoes and driving Hospital van (as needed).

      • Responds to Code 100's
        • In the absence of Emergency Departments (EDS) Tech I or II, will be required to respond immediately to Code 100, being available to perform Electrocardiogram (EKG's), and assist with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) as needed.

      • Completes and documents patient records.
        • Completes all associated paperwork with each procedure in a timely manner insuring accuracy in documentation.
        • Distributes all interpreted tests appropriately.
        • Maintains accurate documentation for accreditation process.

      • Infection control and safety.
        • Adheres to department policy and procedure techniques concerning infection control and safety.
        • Utilizes universal precautions.

      • Staff development.
        • Participates in personal development and hospital continuing education programs.
        • Assists with the training of new staff members.
        • Actively pursues credentialing process.
        • Participates in the department performance improvement programs.

      • Maintains inventory of supplies.
        • Monitors inventory of departmental supplies and ordering more supplies.

      • Equipment maintenance.
        • Monitors equipment, insuring proper functional operation.
        • Troubleshoots equipment.
        • Reports malfunctioning equipment and replaces equipment as necessary.

    • Essential Functions II

      • Participates in mandatory in-services and/or CE programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by management.

      • Follows and understands the mission, vision, core values, Employee Standards of Compassionate Care/AIDET and company policies/procedures.

      • Other duties as assigned.
