  • Purpose of Job
    • While adhering to the mission and values of the College and the tenets of her/his own faith tradition, the Director of Spiritual Development is responsible for leading spiritual life, and pastoral care for Nebraska Methodist College. The position serves as a staff member within the College's Office of Student Engagement. The Director will primarily work with students to encourage spiritual growth, compassion, and reflection. The Director will also promote resilience, wellness, and persistence. In collaboration with faculty and staff, the Director will integrate elements of spirituality into the curriculum, and co-curricular programming.
  • Job Requirements
    • Education
      • Master of Divinity Degree or related field preferred

    • Experience
      • 2 years of experience serving as a member of the clergy, as a chaplain, and/or in religious life preferred.

    • License/Certifications
      • Status as ordained clergy preferred.

    • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
      • Excellent communicator; deliver effective presentations in the classroom as well as in the community, and able to lead public prayers.
      • Strong relational skills for getting to know students as well as community outreach.
      • Organizational skills; management of program, and self-motivated for program development.
      • Moderate computer skills; create, and send online videos, create presentations, and documents.

  • Essential Job Functions

    • Develop, lead, and evaluate the Spiritual Development efforts at the College.

    • Serve as a visible spirituality presence on campus, and online.

    • Perform or provide pastoral, spiritual, and grief care as needed for students, faculty, and staff.

    • Respond when appropriate to situations of crisis within the campus community, including illness, death of a member of the College community, or family member, or other emergencies.

    • Serve as a consultant to expand spiritual elements of the curriculum.

    • Coordinate events, and community service projects.

    • Provide invocations, and benediction at college events (e.g. graduation).

    • Lead initiatives (e.g. resilience program).

    • Advise student organizations.

    • Maintain the College chapel.

    • Give class presentations, and develop online tools.

    • Serve on relevant committees.

    • Manage Spiritual Development budget.

    • Represent the College, and foster, and maintain relationships with United Methodist Church locally.

    • Monitor the adherence to the United Methodist Church University Senate accreditation standards.

    • Other responsibilities as assigned.
