POSITION SUMMARY

The incumbent will provide technical and administrative skills in several areas including:  finance, tax, cash management, risk management and pension fund management.  The Tax Manager is also responsible for the supervision of the Senior Tax Accountant Supervisor. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

TAXES

  • Review of the federal and Canadian returns for Lozier Corporation.
  • Responsible for state income tax returns, franchise tax returns, quarterly excise tax returns, personal property tax and real estate tax returns, all unclaimed property tax returns,  and other tangible and intangible property tax returns.
  • Analyze state nexus issues to determine filing requirements.
  • Analyze calculation and payments of all federal and state estimated tax payments.
  • Responsible for federal, state and foreign sales/use tax research and planning as required.
  • Review of the tax provision and preparation of the journal entries for the annual audit.
  • Manage federal and state income tax audits, and state sales/use tax audits, if applicable.
  • Review calculations of all tax incentive filings for the applicable states as well as manage the audits of the information.
  • Ensure timely filing of all tax incentive paperwork, if applicable.
  • Responsible for real estate protests and management of consultants.
  • Overall review of monthly and quarterly state sales/use tax returns prepared by the Sales Tax Coordinator.
  • Overall review of various tax depreciation reports from Oracle system.
  • Annual reconciliation and preparation of year-end journal entry, if applicable for the sales/use tax audit account.
  • Quarterly review and annual budget calculation for federal and state taxes.
  • Responsible for Canadian GST/HST sales tax returns.
  • Perform Research on various federal, state and sales tax issues.
  • Responsible for calculation of taxable income for IC-DISC commission.

CASH MANAGEMENT:

  • Overall responsibility for daily cash worksheet prepared by the Sales Tax Coordinator.  Direct responsibility for cash management needs.
  • Making and monitoring the short-term investments.  This involves coordinating with the CFO on the cash needs of the Company.
  • Quarterly review and annual budget calculation for interest income.
  • Liaison between banks and Lozier personnel regarding banking issues; responsible for fee negotiations with banks and all changes in banking services.

PENSION FUND MANAGEMENT:

  • Review of Form 5500s for defined benefit plan and defined contribution plans.
  • Review of Summary Annual Reports for the defined contribution plan.
  • Review of annual Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation (PBGC) reports.
  • Responsible for working with Benefits to review and coordinate legal changes to the pension plans.
  • Responsible for reviewing and the coordination of the issuance of the Summary Plan Descriptions as required.
  • Responsible for preparing and ensuring that quarterly estimated payments for DB plans are made timely.
  • Preparation of census data and other information required by actuaries for preparation of annual funding requirements.
  • Prepare 401(k) Non-Discrimination test and Top-Heavy test for DB plans.
  • Preparation of information required by actuaries to calculate FASB 87 information for annual audit.
  • Preparation of annual journal entry required for FASB 87 and pension and FASB 87 annual budgets.
  • Annual reconciliation of accrued pension account and preparation of year-end journal entry, if applicable.
  • Assist Internal Audit with questions for the year-end audit and benefit plan audits.
  • Assist in fee negotiations with Plan Administrators.

FRINGE BENEFITS:

  • Review of Form 5500 and Summary Annual Report for health plan.
  • Overall review of Form 5500s on all other fringe benefit plans.
  • Assist in the coordination and review of tax law changes with Payroll and Human Resources with regard to fringe benefits.

RISK MANAGEMENT:

  • Review annual valuation of inventory, machinery/equipment, and tool and die for property insurance, which are prepared by the Senior Tax Accountant.  Coordinate review of this information with engineers.
  • File all claims with property insurance carrier.
  • Develop knowledge in areas of workers’ compensation and general liability insurance.
  • Review quarterly analysis of workers’ compensation and general liability reserves for accrual accounts.
  • Prepare annual information needed to calculate the workers’ compensation experience rating factor or “mod” factor for our broker.
  • Responsible for annual budget of workers’ compensation, general liability, umbrella and property insurance.
  • Prepare information on workers’ compensation and general liability for annual audit by insurance company.
  • Responsible for fee negotiations in securing workers’ compensation, general liability and property insurance coverage’s.
  • Responsible for customs information for exports and imports as well as filing the necessary paperwork for the power of attorney’s required and request for confidentiality.

 

Leadership and Management

  • Develop, maintain, and use standard operating procedures/work instructions for daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly routines.
  • Conduct informative team meetings, as needed, to communicate department and company-wide issues and events.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize work to ensure timely and accurate completion of all department functions.
  • Provide associates with direction, supervision., coaching, training, and growth and development opportunities.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/ Finance
  • CPA, Masters of Taxation or an Attorney with comparable tax experience

Experience:   5-10 years of Accounting with an emphasis in the tax area
