Iowa Western Community College is currently seeking a Coordinator of Academic Support Services to join our exciting and student-focused team at our beautiful SW Iowa Campus, in Council Bluffs Iowa. This position reports to the Director of Academic Support and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Tutoring Center and Writing Center. This position provides high-quality, coordinated services and effective academic support to a diverse population of students. This includes providing one-on-one academic coaching to students intended to enhance and improve students' awareness and development of a wide array of non-cognitive skills, such as organization, commitment to college goals, and test anxiety. This position is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of three professional tutors and a team of peer tutors. Creates and manages a variety of resources for the development of a wide array of non-cognitive skills. Tracks and analyses usage of the Tutoring Center, Writing Center, and ThinkingStorm services.
Bachelor's degree required. Required skills include: superior oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate policies and procedures to students; strong computer skills, particularly the ability to operate and understand programming for a complex student information system; and ability to excel in team and individual settings, multi-task, problem solve, manage their time, and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and faculty while thriving in a fast pace environment.
Additional qualifications include: reading, writing, calculating, social interaction skills, reasoning/analysis, ability work with minimal supervision, high degree of problem-solving and high degree of interpersonal skills. Hiring process includes ability to pass a background check, a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
Occasional lifting of 10 lbs., ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, use hands to operate a computer keyboard, telephone and other basic office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear and use a phone, and some travel, including by vehicle, may be required.
