Job Description

Basic Function and Responsibility:

The CNA Lab Assistant will be a resource for Certified Nurse Assistant students and will be responsible for assisting with laboratory sessions, evaluations, and a collection of course assessment data.

 

Typical Physical Demands:

Requires prolonged standing or sitting.  Requires frequent bending, stooping or stretching.  May require light lifting.  Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.  Requires ability to distinguish letters or symbols.  Requires the use of office equipment such as computer terminals, calculator, telephone, faxes, and copiers. 

 

Typical Working Conditions:

Work is routinely performed in a classroom environment.  Frequent contact with internal and external customers is required.  Instructors are responsible for obtaining and maintaining reliable compatible computer hardware and software.

 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in course instruction and competency assessments in the lab setting.
  • Helping students acquire critical cognitive, psychomotor skills and support affective learning in the laboratory.
  • Set-up and takedown of equipment needed for laboratory instruction.
  • Reviewing quality control measures and assisting students guiding them with corrective actions in a positive manner when needed.
  • Maintaining appropriate records for the students, ensuring that all competencies have been taught and tested; maintaining adherence to CNA guidelines.
  • Serving as a role model to the students of professional behavior and communication.
  • Promoting a positive learning environment with emphasis on safety and compliance with national accrediting agency standards.
  • Making systematic observations and formulates objective judgments about student performance with timely feedback given to the students.
  • Completing other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
  • Effective organizational skills, particularly as they relate to the teaching-learning process.
  • Capable of creating a classroom and lab environment, which is conducive to student learning.
  • Strong motivation to work/serve under-prepared students.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.

 

Education:

Required:  Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with two years of experience in the field.

 

Experience:

Required:  Demonstrates understanding of Certified Nurse Assistant competencies and an understanding of equipment used in the field.  Ability to create a positive hands-on learning environment with encouragement and motivation.

General supervision received from Academic Dean
