Position Description
HDR is looking for an energetic, team-oriented, creative landscape architect to join our Chicago team. This is a part-time position working directly with IDOT, in their office and at various job sites. The position may expand to full-time service if IDOT were to seek full-time dedication.

Work Responsibilities Include:
  • Provide construction administration services for IDOT projects, including field observation of landscape installation and plant selection
  • Collaborate with planners, engineers and other site-based disciplines on roadway design and planning projects



Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in landscape architecture from an accredited university
  • Holding a professional license in landscape architecture in the State of Illinois is required.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience working as a landscape architect
  • Proficient in storm water BMPs, Illinois prairie restoration and ecosystems streetscape design, plant identification, and roadside vegetation management
  • Familiarity with IDOT letting documents, plan sets, landscape related pay items, payment measurements and standard specifications
  • Knowledge of IDOT Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction Manual, Construction Inspection and Documentation Requirements
  • QAQC experience on plan sets and documentation of review comments
  • Working knowledge of plant materials and planting design in roadside and streetscape settings
  • Knowledge of erosion and sediment control methods
  • Collaborative experience working within a multi-disciplinary design firm and various specialties including erosion and sediment control, arborists, environmental compliance
  • Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

Urban and transportation design experience in Chicago is preferred.
