Primary Responsibilities

Successful candidate would work on a portfolio of HDR projects where HDR is a design subcontractor to a contractor on a transportation project and potentially on projects where HDR is the design/builder.  Position will require a minimum of 50% travel to project locations. The Contracts Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with the terms and conditions of prime and subcontracts, negotiating the terms and conditions of subcontracts, and documenting and agreeing on any changes or amendments that may arise during the implementation or execution. Provide guidance and assistance to Project Managers on all contract matters.

  • Develops and implements procedures for contract management and administration in compliance with company policy.
  • Administers on-going Contracts, including compliance with the Contract documents to ensure that the requirement of the contracts are implemented and maintained. Administer and oversee contract performance by monitoring compliance documents, schedules, and deliverables
  • Assists in drafting of subcontracts for design or engineering services. Administers current prime contract and flow down to subcontractors, task orders and modifications.   • Reviews all contract documents to minimize conflicts and ambiguities.
  • Administers the project risk register.
  • Conducts contract awareness and change order training for key project staff.
  • Prepares correspondence and maintains records necessary to ensure the effective administration of all Contractual matters.
  • Facilitates the preparation of contract changes and administration, review and settlement of contract change negotiations and participation in the development of affirmative claims and support to the project and the legal department on defense of claims.  Includes preparation of change order and claim logs.
  • Assists the Project Manager in contract close-out procedures to ensure that all terms and conditions of contracts have been complied with prior to final payment to contractor.
  • Makes amendments to contractual documents as required.
  • Ensures all warranties, bonds, insurances, guarantees, etc. are in place and maintained and updated in accordance with the Contract and are in compliance with the Clients requirements.
  • Assists Project Control in respect of contractual implications of change orders
  • Monitor schedule for submission of deliverables and other contractual notices and certifications.
  • Prepares monthly reports.




Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Law, Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or Cost Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 15 years of post-graduate work experience
    Experience in the administration of commercial and/or governmental contracts is preferred.
  • 10+ years experience of demonstrated contract experience with a major engineering firm, contractor or law firm in the areas of engineering and construction contracts.
  • Experience in a construction office is preferred.
  • Must be able to operate under a degree of autonomy.
  • Must be able to directly negotiate Contractual matters with subcontractors, for the project legal counsel final approval.
  • Must be able to operate under a degree of autonomy.
  • Must have a proven track record in the construction industry.

Courses or experience in pricing, contract law, contract drafting, administration and negotiation of change orders, effective correspondence, planning and scheduling.
Working knowledge of engineering/construction industry contracting practices, applicable government and commercial regulations and practices, policies, procedures and work practices.
