HDR is currently looking for Testing and Commissioning Engineers to join our growing and national ranked team of Power Delivery professionals.
The primary duties of the Testing and Commissioning Engineer are to perform installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of transmission, substation and distribution protection and control equipment.
Perform Installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of transmission, substation and distribution protection and control equipment.
Perform function testing of substation control circuits on relay panel, transformers & circuit breaker change-outs.
Provide oversight of testing and commissioning activities for HDR generation, transmission and distribution projects
Manage HDR projects onsite through energization including completion of quality documentation and deliverables
Communicate effectively with customers, vendors, subcontractors and HDR project personnel
Perform synchronized end-to-end relay testing
Develop written commissioning, testing and maintenance procedures for protection and control equipment
As required, direct the activities of other project personnel and provide mentoring and instruction
Key words: commissioning, testing, T&D, transmission, substation
BSEE or BSEET in addition to 4+ years of hands on experience in testing and commissioning of high voltage substations
ASEET or equivalent technical training in addition to 10+ years of hands on experience in testing and commissioning of high voltage substations
Strong knowledge and understanding of high voltage electrical substation components including function, operation and testing methodologies
Extensive knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals
Be able to effectively troubleshoot transmission and distribution control circuits
Strong knowledge and understanding of three phase power systems, per-unit mathematics, and symmetrical components
Working knowledge of substation protection and control scope of work involving protective relaying, control building and panel layout, SCADA, RTU, PANEL and equipment wiring diagrams (CWD's), AC & DC Schematics (EWD's), communication schematics, termination cabinets, AC & DC load distribution
Working knowledge of relay logic diagrams
Strong Knowledge and understanding of engineering standards including IEEE
Strong knowledge of design documents and drawings necessary to complete a project
Experience installing, maintaining, testing, & repairing circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, and similar equipment
Experience performing test and calibration of protective relays using software such as: Doble ProTest & Protection Suite, Enoserv RTS, Megger AVTS or Omicron Test Universe.
Knowledge of common word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail software
Working in a team environment
Communicating effectively with co-workers, vendors, clients, etc.
Must be willing and able to work overtime and travel out of town to project sites
Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen
Must be able to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs. from ground level to waist high, with or without reasonable accommodations
Must be able to climb ladder and stand for extended periods of time
Must have a valid driver's license, and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record
Ability to work regularly in the field which may vary from an outdoor environment exposed to any seasonal elements to inside working space which could vary widely in temperature
Experience with relay setting calculations, including performing and review of coordination studies
Experience installing and testing SCADA and communication systems in a high voltage substations
Knowledge of common engineering application software
Strong computer knowledge of GE Enervista, SEL AcSELerator, COMTRADE files, SS1 files, Enoserv RTS or Doble ProTest software.
Experience with project cost estimation, resource loading, schedule development, and critical path analysis
Experience with generation and transmission electromechanical protective relays
