Primary Responsibilities
HDR currently has an opening for a Transportation Construction Inspector to join our Construction Engineering Management (CEM) Team in Salt Lake City, Utah. The primary duties will involve performing project inspection, materials testing, and generating project documentation records.  Our team's approach is focused on proactivity, collaboration, and issue mitigation and resolution.   This role requires outstanding communication skills with an attention to detail.  Applicants will be required to demonstrate problem solving abilities, writing skills, verbal skills, and computer skills.


Typical construction projects will involve the inspection, materials testing and project documentation for the following items; bridges, box culverts, retaining walls, pavement (PCCP, HMA), granular materials (UTBC, GB, Borrow, Soil), pressurized water systems, storm drainage, sanitary sewers, utilities, concrete flatwork, signals, lighting, signing, striping, and landscaping. 


Applicant will be required to obtain the following certifications following employment; UDOT Inspection Qualification Program, Materials Testing (PCCP, Granular Materials, Nuclear Density Gauge), ADA Ramp, Traffic Control, OSHA, Guardrail/Crash Cushions, Environmental Supervisor, First Aid, Partnering, Storm Water Pollution Prevention, and Railroad Training.




  • 5-10 years with UDOT and/or city, county, municipality construction inspection, materials testing and project documentation is desired.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (Clean, concise, well organized)

  • Must exhibit proficient technical computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel)

  • Partnering (Ability to work and interact with the Owner, Contractor, Public, and Project Team) in the best interest of the project and HDR.

  • HDR is a drug and alcohol free environment.  Position requires drug and alcohol screening procedures prior to being hired and thereafter subject to random and causation testing.

  • HDR is a highly driven employee-owned company.  An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

  • Assignments will often entail weekend work and occasionally entail night work.

  • Assignments may be located throughout Utah.  Traveling may be required.
