Primary Responsibilities

HDR Engineering is looking for a Bridge Engineer/ Inspector to join our team in Denver, CO.  The Bridge Engineer/ Inspector will be expected to perform bridge inspections and requires familiarity with a broad spectrum of bridge inspection equipment, method and processes.  The candidate will conduct National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) inspections, write field inspection reports, and perform basic mathematical calculations.  Field Inspections will be performed from ground level, hydraulic equipment, ladder access, or through the use of an assisted-climbing technique.  As a lead inspector, the candidate will provide supervision of the bridge inspection team and provide support to the Project Managers in planning inspection activities.   






Required Qualifications

  •  BS in Civil Engineering required.

  •  MS in Civil/Structural Engineering preferred.

  •  PE required.

  •  5-10+ years bridge/structural design experience is preferred.

  •  5+ years bridge inspection experience required. 2+ years as a lead inspector preferred.

  •  NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges Training required and current. 

  •  NHI Inspection of Fracture Critical Steel Bridges Training preferred. 

  •  Willingness/ability to become trained in industrial rope access (SPRAT) is a plus.

  •  Experience in structural load rating analysis using design analysis software (MathCAD, LARSA, SAP, etc) preferred.

  •  Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook).

  •  Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must have good communication skills and be willing to work in a team environment.

  •  Proven problem solving and documentation abilities. Must possess the ability to manage inspection staff, schedules and coordinate field activities as well as read and interpret bridge construction drawings and shop drawings.

  •  Must be willing to work with other disciplines (bridge design, roadway design, hydraulic analysis, stream restoration, planning, traffic control) within the office, as necessary, during inspection downtime.

  •  This position requires physical ability to perform field inspections of in-service bridge and culvert structures, overhead sign structures, hydraulic structures, and metal traffic signal poles. Physical demands include positioning extension ladders, maneuvering small boats, and walking long distances on uneven surfaces.

  •  Candidate should expect exposure to environmental hazards, such as, but not limited to, warm and cold temperatures, water, work-at-height, poisonous plants, snakes, spiders, and other creatures.

  •  Must possess a valid drivers license, and have the ability to travel for multiple night stays during the week.
