Electrical Engineer: Rail Systems Traction Power

The primary duties include production of design and technical coordination work of rail systems traction power projects. Traction power projects include traction power supply system and traction distribution (overhead catenary and contact rail) system projects.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Perform design including development of plans and specifications and selection of equipment and systems
  • Technical coordination of specific design packages including planning, organizing and coordinating work of small group of professional and technicians to complete the work on time
  • Establish meetings and participation in reviews with various project clients
  • Conduct work sessions at the project site in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines
  • Review systems documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines
  • Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs and change orders, and take responsibility to incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents
  • Assist in providing construction contract administration as needed
  • Conduct QA/QC on the work of other Systems Engineers, Coordinators or Technicians
  • Perform other duties as needed

  • Qualifications


  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field
  • PE license preferred; as a minimum must have passed the Fundamental of Engineering examination conducted by NCEES
  • 5+ years' experience out of which at least three years should be in rail transit systems traction power design, implementation and/or operation and maintenance
  • Strong computer skills, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and electrical design software
  • Previous experience with an engineering consulting firm desired
  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
