HDR is currently seeking a Senior Construction Manager to join our growing water business group in the mid-Atlantic area. Successful candidates will have spent at least 15 years in responsible construction management (CM) positions for a contractor, municipal agency or CM consultant.  Ideal candidates will have broad experience with different contract delivery methods, including design-build, CMAR, and design-bid-build on large water/wastewater treatment -exceeding $50 million in value and the CM activities required during all project delivery phases including preconstruction, construction, commissioning & validation.

Primary Responsibilities

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform as the Construction Management role as the Owner's advisor and on-site field representative.
  • Perform constructability reviews.  
  • Review and approve cost estimates that include conceptual estimates prior to design as well as detailed time and materials estimates from design documents including independent estimates of construction change orders.
  • Review and approve pre-bid CPM schedules from design documents.
  • Staff and lead a CM team performing field engineering, construction inspection, construction contract administration and project controls activities.
  • Develop or implement existing policies and procedures for construction contract administration, performance reporting (cost & schedule), submittal review, quality assurance, progress payments, document control, change order/claim analysis, commissioning and project acceptance/close-out. 
  • Review and approve monthly construction contractor CPM schedule updates; progress payments based on schedule updates; recovery schedules.
  • Perform effective change management negotiations and contract administration services. Prepare independent cost estimate, analyze proposed changes, prepare a negotiation plan, and negotiate change orders on behalf of the Owner.
  • Review and analyze construction claims and develop sound recommendations to the client.
  • Supervise the CM's efforts as part of the Quality Program. Manage a staff of individuals performing quality assurance tasks associated with observing the source and field Contractor's Quality Program activities.

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent written communication abilities required. Proven report writing abilities required; ability to independently write reports and correspondence.
  • Strong leadership and oral communication skills.
  •  Project and/or Construction Management experience required in water/wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Cost Estimating and change order negotiation experience required
  • A knowledge of CPM scheduling techniques and various software platforms to include Primavera P6 software.
Preferred Qualifications
 
Certifications desired, but not required, include: PE, CCM, or PMP
