The Role

 

Lincoln’s Enterprise Architecture team is adding on a Sr. Systems Architect to provide guidance to teams of technical architects as they look to bring in the best technologies to move Lincoln’s solutions to the future.  The Systems Architect works as part of the Enterprise Architecture – Technical Architecture team to provide technical guidance to application development teams based on detailed knowledge of enterprise standards, industry best practices, and the specific needs of the supported business area.  The Architect will be involved in consulting engagements regarding new and existing applications, environments, or processes. The output of a consulting engagement will include design documentation, applied research into various technology options, and related technical recommendations for the development team.

 

Responsibilities 

 

 Technical  

 

  • Provides direction on complex assignments, projects, and/or initiatives to build and enhance the capability of his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Collaborates with federated architects for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Delivers design documentation including: Reference Architectures, Conceptual Designs, Physical Designs, Market Research, and POC Documentation.
  • Manages and maintains standards through a technology catalog ensuring currency and applicability through exception and review processes.
  • Directs and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Identifies and directs the implementation of process improvements that significantly improve quality across the team, department and/or business unit for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned area(s) or responsibility, assesses the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.
  • Directs and integrates secure development activities into projects’ SDLC
  • Directs and implements initiatives based on current roadmap and reports on progress and issues
  • Provides technical subject matter expertise to the LFG development teams including communicating architecture decisions and approved patterns.

 

Execution 

 

  • Conducts studies of new technologies to provide more efficient and cost effective solutions
  • Communicates (written/verbal) at an expert level conveying complex technical information to a broad audience
  • Collaborates with business, security, and information technology experts to understand requirements and constraints from all sides and determines solutions
  • Reviews work of other team members and coaches and shares technical expertise with other architects
  • Carries out duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines.  Complies with all company and site policies and procedures.
  • Remains current in profession and industry trends.
  • Makes a positive contribution as demonstrated by:  making suggestions for improvement and learning new skills, procedures and processes.
  • Successfully completes regulatory and job training requirements.  
  • Ability to perform under stress in cases of emergency, critical or hazardous situations.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.

 

Education 

 

  • 4 Year/Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelors) (Minimum Required)
     

Experience 

 

  • 5 – 7+ Years of experience in Enterprise Architecture that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position (Required)
  • 5+ years’ experience as an architect with a strong overall systems engineering background spanning ten to fifteen years
  • Large scale Infrastructure design
  • Amazon Web Services
  • Service Oriented Architecture
  • SQL
  • Messaging Middleware (Websphere, Weblogic, Tomcat)
  • Structured ETL tools like Informatica PowerCenter
  • Job Scheduling and automation software
  • Managed File Transfer
  • Mainframe Integration Techniques
  • Grid Computing
  • Conceptual Designs (Solution Proposal)
  • Physical Designs (Architecture Overview)
  • Structured Proof of Concepts
  • Architecture Decision Documents
  • Technology evaluations (RFI / RFP)
  • Insurance and Financial industry experience is a plus
  • Software design experience is a plus 
  • Agile experience is a plus
