The Role

The key responsibilities of this position are to provide leadership, subject matter expertise, and direction to the report development team and oversee delivery of, complex analytical reporting initiatives for the Distribution and Marketing IT organization. The successful candidate will demonstrate strength in defining business specifications, design and development of analytical reports, creation of test plans, execute test scenarios, and maintain a strong relationship with the business analytical reporting team. The candidate will bring a passion for data analytics and the Microstrategy reporting tool to an environment that is driven to achieve best in class advanced analytics through award winning tools.

Responsibilities

  • Will collaboratively design, define, and document the analytical data requirements, aligned with strategic and tactical (ad hoc) projects
  • Build out conceptual, logical and physical models in a dimensional model structure
  • Leverage creative use of the software in areas such as; mathematical and statistical functions, documents, Geo/mapping functions, transaction services, scheduling and notifications alerting and thresholds
  • Review existing data models to optimize, analyze and improve report performance
  • Function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the definition and structure of the data and processes on complex assignments and projects
  • Mentor and train the BIR core report creators at a deeper level, so that they rapidly become more confident and capable with the with the web, developer, integrity manager, and object manager tools
  • Provide overall best practice guidance to the team and System Engineering teams related to the use, maintenance, and setup of MicroStrategy software and projects
  • Work with IT Data Architect team in optimizing performance of MicroStrategy relative to the underlying EDW data mart; such as optimization of the schema layer to best generate SQL, and suggesting tuning opportunities
  • Partners with internal and external stakeholder (e.g. development teams) on defect resolution activities such as troubleshooting MicroStrategy configuration, security, and interoperability (SMTP/email, web apps, network, database)
  • Lead/or attend project meetings representing the interests of the team and customers
  • Continually expand Data Driven Science skills by attending related presentations and related education offerings through Lincoln and others
  • Will work in Agile environment, in a pod that delivered quality products in a continuous deployment manner

Education

  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's)in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems, Information Technology or Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience (Minimum Required)

Experience

  • 5 - 7+ Years experience in application development that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position (Required)
  • 3years of experience in Microstrategy (version 10 and greater) Dynamic dashboard and report development, schema object development, Multi-Sourcing, Intelligent Cubes and other Application Objects that support scalable and optimized use of ad hoc elements and analytical dashboards
  • Hands on experience with MicroStrategy Enterprise, Command and Object Manager; iServer Administration, OLAP and Report Services
  • Strong knowledge of data mining techniques with a deep understanding of statistical and precative analysis functions
  • Has lead and mentored Microstrategy development teams, providing status reports of all product work
  • Experience with project delivery in an Agile environment within the financial services/insurance industry and ability to work with others in a strong team environment
  • Strong and comfortable communicator with presentation skills with demonstrated ability to influence at all levels of management through clear, informed and logical discussions/presentations
  • Thrives in a highly dynamic business environment providing direct support to business users
  • Ability to coordinate and balance multiple assignments in a time sensitive environment, under pressure, and execute against established deadlines
  • Demonstrate strong relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g management, peers and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches
  • Experience in the insurance/financial services industry is desirable for this position
