The Role

 

As a Paralegal, you will support functions and activities of the Litigation team of the Group Protection Legal & Compliance Team as well as support the Department in functions such as research.   

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Research, review and analyze group insurance litigation files understanding the content, applying critical thinking/analysis to case facts in accordance with Department processes
  • Coordinate, research and organize discovery as requested
  • Perform accurate benefit calculations and present values related to litigated files in accordance with Department processes
  • Research and respond to subpoenas and related requests
  • Issue and monitor litigation hold orders
  • Complete legal research requests as assigned
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

 

Education

  • Undergraduate degree and/or paralegal certificate with minimum 3 years relevant experience is strongly preferred

 

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in group insurance/financial services industry a plus
  • Experience in group insurance claims management a plus
  • Litigation support experience preferred
  • Ability to draft succinct and appropriate business letters and emails
  • Have demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with professionalism and discretion
  • Have experience managing multiple tasks effectively and showing strong flexibility
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Proficiency with business unit systems (AWD)
  • A demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations
  • Possesses a bias for action and avoids workplace distractions
  • Drives performance targets to completion
