Minimum core responsibilities:

  • Learn the basics of medical underwriting and how to use various systems and applications
  • Assist Underwriters/Underwriting technicians with processing applications for group life and disability
  • Review, evaluate, and categorize incoming documents; verify information for accuracy/appropriateness; and follow up with others for missing or questionable data
  • Enter and retrieve information of varying complexity using computer systems and applications to update records, obtain information for others, and respond independently to most questions and problems
  • Prepare insurance forms/documents and correspondence
  • Process other insurance transactions to provide customer service and support efforts to acquire and retain profitable business
  • Build business and professional skills that will prepare you for leadership positions
  • Provide customer service through phones, e-mails, letter, and other forms of communication
  • Ability to work and collaborate as a valuable member of a team
  • Ability to hit minimum metric goal on productivity while maintain high quality audit score

The Medical Underwriting department is responsible for reviewing and processing applications for life and disability coverage as part of an annual enrollment, a family status change, or a late enrollment. The department uses current and historical data to evaluate risk and to price accordingly. In addition to the day-to-day responsibilities of the role, you will gain exposure to the underwriting function and the overall operation of the underwriting department.

As a program participant you will earn a competitive salary as you gain valuable work experience.

Upon program completion, we work closely with managers and former interns to identify potential future employment opportunities at Lincoln Financial Group that align with business needs and interns personal career aspirations.

  • Must be willing to relocate for summer program
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
