The Role

As the AVP of Life Expense Management, you will provide leadership, direction and functional expertise to ensure departmental results for Lincolns Life Solutions Finance area. You will gain a broad understanding of Lincolns Life Business and directly influence outcomes of the Life Strategic & Financial Plan. You will also contribute to the development of the departmental strategy and ensure that financial information is delivered in a clear, concise and actionable way. This position will require a balance of Disciplined Expense Management with strong relationship skills. You will define expense savings while aligning business commitments that will directly impact Lincolns bottom line.


  • Contributes to the strategy development for financial trends, issues and/or concerns.
  • Anticipates and proactively provides strategies and solutions to complex financial problems or trends.
  • Provides direction on complex financial analysis activities & processes, including directing the development of sufficient, accurate & reliable complex financial information to support data driven decision making.
  • Develops and implements financial analysis policies and procedures.
  • Analyzes and recommends expense reduction strategies to minimize total Life G&A expenses.
  • Build of annual expense budget aligned to strategy and comprehensive financial plan
  • Collaborates with and influences financial and business decisions of multiple departments supporting the Life business
  • Provides controls and reporting for ongoing diligent expense management
  • Build our reporting, ensure departmental accountability, and recommend strategies to eliminate the Life Expense Gap
  • Collaborates with Product Management to ensure product pricing assumptions align with business model expense structure
  • Partner with the business to develop, challenge, and track the successful execution of new strategic investments
  • Analyze expense allocations to ensure appropriate expense level within Life. Recommend and execute on appropriate changes
  • Directs a team that provides financial analysis support and complex reporting for management
  • Directs the complex analysis and validation of financial data to ensure information is sufficient, compliant, accurate and reliable.
  • Identifies, recommends and implements opportunities to make the complex financial analysis processes more efficient and achieve balance of timeliness and precision.
  • Directs and participates in departmental or enterprise wide complex projects assigned by providing stakeholders with actionable and valuable complex financial information to enable decision-making that results in successful outcomes.
  • Directs and ensures a thorough evaluation of complex financial metrics and analysis while carefully following processes to achieve efficiency.
  • Develops and manages budget and expenses.


  • 4 Year Bachelor's degree (or 4+ Years of equivalent work experience) required; Educational Concentration in Finance a plus; CPA a plus


  • 10+ Years of experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and/or disciplined expense management
  • 3+ years of managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience including influencing senior management/critical stakeholders experience
  • Strong presentation skills with demonstrated ability to influence at all levels of management through clear, informed and logical discussions/presentations
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate knowledgeably and credibly with senior management and internal constituents.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully hire, retain, develop and coach staff via a culture of real-time performance feedback, with ability to build both technical and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated strong relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g. senior management, peers and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches.
