The Role

The Consultant, Tax Services will consult & deliver on more complex assignments for his/her assigned area. S/he will conduct audits, recommend and implement process improvements, and lead annual initiatives to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant tax documentation & records. S/he will also act as a tax resource for internal/external stakeholders. Final career framework level will be dependent upon the candidate's skills and experience.


  • Advises mgmt & internal stakeholders on data accuracy issues, risks & financial implications for tax reporting
  • Analyzes more complex data from various sources to identify trends of data issues with regard to tax reporting & claim payments compliance to company policies & external regulations
  • Builds & enhances relationships with brokers, representatives, employers & customers on more complex issues to ensure quality service delivery & customer satisfaction
  • Collaborates with corporate tax, compliance & finance to implement operational & financial risk controls; provides guidance to successfully perform, document & report on controls
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to develop &/or improve training materials; assists with conducting training sessions as needed
  • Conducts ongoing data audits to ensure accuracy, improve process efficiency, and reduce financial &/or regulatory risks with tax documents (W-2, 1099)
  • Determines root cause of issues, develops solutions, and liaises with mgmt & other internal stakeholders to implement system &/or process changes to support accurate & compliant tax reporting
  • Documents, updates & maintains more complex policies & procedures for tax reporting initiatives
  • Identifies & develops alliances to foster mutually beneficial business between Lincoln & third-party partners
  • Leads annual mailing of required tax forms: obtains, analyzes & reconciles year-end data from various sources, evaluates variances, approves production & mailing of tax documents in compliance with IRS regulations & deadlines
  • Liaises with internal resources, including IT, to resolve system issues, obtain data &/or develop reports for audits & tax reporting; tests any system changes
  • Researches & responds to more complex questions related to tax documents; evaluates accuracy of documents; processes needed corrections
  • Serves as a resource & provides guidance to internal teams on practices/procedures for tax reporting & document processing, including audits, data reconciliation & corrective actions
  • Supports managemet on analyses/presentations and resolution of key issues
  • Works with project & product development teams to integrate new product designs/systems with existing tax processes/procedures, including reporting & controls

Education & Experience

  • 3 - 5+ Years of tax &/or claims experience, including experience in account reconciliation, variances & audits.(Required)
  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's)in (Minimum Required)
