The Role

As the AVP, Distribution Strategy you will provide strategic leadership, direction, and structure to develop, implement, execute, and monitor key Distribution and integration initiatives & projects that support the medium & long-term growth & profitability within the Group Protection organization. You will partner tightly with the LFG organization strategy team to ensure Distribution strategies & plans are executed consistent with LFGs growth, financial, and business objectives and will provide leadership to key stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Provides leadership and develops functional strategies/plans to achieve priorities & key objectives to ensure successful growth & profitability for the Group Protection Distribution organization
  • Influences strategic direction and provides direction for strategic-oriented solutions to Distribution Leaders regarding emerging trends, competing priorities, and critical issues facing the business
  • Leads the strategy for cross-functional Distribution initiatives, collaborates with key stakeholders to formulate, prioritize, and sequence strategic program deliverables, leads analyses to evaluate impact of alternatives for Distribution performance
  • Creates and revises strategic plans & informal structures, builds allies & relationships across departments, and leverages allies to build consensus

  • Ensures training and staff development on successful project management methods, concepts, and tools
  • Collaborates tightly with Group Protection strategy to ensure distribution strategies and priorities and in alignment with overall organization objectives

Organizational Effectiveness & Project Management

  • Coordinates input from leaders across Distribution to manage project portfolio and facilitate the integration & alignment of various projects with the overall business unit plan & strategy
  • Collaborates with senior management to identify and resolve potential project conflicts, overlaps & integrations points; enables successful delivery of outcomes and ensures quality of work and proper communication amongst stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with peers & Distribution leadership to secure project resources and drive plan creation for projects and analyses
  • Manages integration activities and alignment with the Liberty Mutual Benefits acquisition including the development of appropriate project measurements; monitoring program/initiative progress, and ensuring solutions align with the distribution strategy and integration timelines
  • Directs periodic reviews of achievements/performance vs. strategic plans, directs project teams & sponsors to keep projects and integration activities on track to achieve stated objectives
  • Regularly communicates to Distribution leadership and the Integration Management Office, to share project statuses and recommendations as well as generate awareness and alignment.
  • Identifies, defines, evaluates & resolves problems by seeking win/win solutions when business unit & enterprise priorities conflict and understands reasoning behind corporate initiatives

Market Knowledge & Analysis

  • Identifies & analyzes marketplace patterns; considers organizational positioning, and leads cross-functional team to identify Distribution opportunities and drive additional initiatives and proactive analyses
  • Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends, assesses the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future strategies.

Education and Experience

  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) (Minimum Required). MBA or equivalent is preferred.
  • 10+ Years experience directly aligned to the specific responsibilities for this role, incl. 3+ years of management, strategy, and influencing senior management/critical stakeholders (Required)
  • Previous external consulting experience preferred
  • Proven experience developing successful strategies for entering new markets strongly desired
  • Demonstrated experience of leading teams and bringing organizations together through an integration preferred
  • Ability to develop and lead strategy teams through integration initiatives and strategic projects
  • A demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations
  • Drives performance targets to completion
