The Role

As the Associate Underwriting Director, you will be responsible for assessing the medical and financial risk of assigned individual life insurance applications.  You will assign the proper risk class to cases and collaborate with key medical stakeholders to select profitable risks.  

 

 

Responsibilities

Underwriting

·         Underwrites cases with a graduated amount limit up to $10,000,000 to age 85 based on proficiency

·         Provides second signature review

·         Serves as a subject matter expert in one or more underwriting topics, teaches classes or prepares written documentation in the field of expertise

·         Identifies trends/issues and offers resolution

·         Works on assigned projects

 Relationship Management

·         Takes ownership of case with respect to communications with customer and the other department

·         Interacts proactively with customers to enhance relationships

·         Leads presentations given to customers

·         Represents Lincoln at industry/customer meetings

 Organizational Effectiveness

·         Collaborates with underwriting team and medical staff to select profitable risks.

 

Education

 

  • Undergraduate degree or 4+ years of comparable work experience
  • Underwriting including medical, non-medical and financial risk selection; educational concentration in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.

 

Experience

 

  • 6-10 Years of experience with underwriting Individual Life Insurance products that directly aligns with specific responsibilities for this position.
  • Expertise in analyzing and interpreting complex financial documents including profit/loss statements, income statements, and balance sheets.
  • A demonstrated track record of working with minimal supervision, being a self-starter and working with others in a team environment
  • A demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations
  • Demonstrate strong implementation skills, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Possesses a bias for action and avoids workplace distractions
