It is anticipated that an incumbent in this role will work onsite for three (3) or more days a week and will have a dedicated workspace when working onsite. Work location is subject to change based on business needs.

About this Role:

 

Provide general legal advice to employees and management representatives with respect to unsecured consumer lending, home improvement lending, and buy now pay later lending products. Ability to learn the assigned business unit's business/industry, policies and procedures is required. Knowledge of regulatory implications of consumer lending is a plus, and contract law is preferred but not required. Work with other members of the Legal, Risk & Compliance division to ensure that information, knowledge and experience is shared for the benefit of the organization as a whole. A successful candidate will possess strong business acumen and the ability to translate complex legal principles into practical and effective business solutions.

Key Accountabilities:

• Contracts & Disclosures - Proactively engage with business units to ensure appropriate drafting and review of customer, merchant, and other contracts and customer disclosures in order to effectively manage risk to the enterprise.  Establish contract strategy for the assigned business unit(s). 
• Legal Advice & Counsel - Provide legal advice and counsel to business unit.  Develop and present recommendations to business unit representation and assist the implementation of approved solutions.
  • Analyze unique and complex issues, conduct research and develop recommendations to mitigate legal risk for the business unit(s).
  • Negotiate, draft and review contracts for assigned business unit(s).
• Outside Counsel - Effectively collaborate with and manage external counsel providing legal risk services including the identification of appropriate counsel, contracting with counsel for services and managing the cost of counsel.
• Legal Risk Management - Ensure that assigned business units have access to and utilize available legal risk management services and ensure that the requirements of the FNN Legal Risk Policy are met within assigned business units.

• Maintain a high level of cooperation and rapport with all associates in order to ensure accurate and efficient operations and service.
• Formulate and communicate new ideas and suggestions that will improve profitability and efficiency for the organization's overall operation.
• Foster and promote the proper company image at all times.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Experience in the financial services industry, specifically consumer regulatory matters and lending, is preferred but not required.
• Ability to think creatively and strategically, while still developing tactical plans.
• Demonstrate a consultative approach with the ability to analyze stakeholders' needs.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build collaborative relationships, listen and actively contribute to discussions.
• Display a positive business presence with management and external contacts.
• Demonstrate sound judgment and apply logical and critical thought processes when developing and recommending solutions.

• 3-5 years in law firm private practice or as in house counsel preferred.
