POSITION SUMMARY:

Perform value-added credit reviews of traditional agriculture, AgriBusiness Finance, Credit and Resolutions, and Capital Markets credits. Assist in developing value-added programs, including special reviews, to identify and evaluate credit risk and developing recommendations for managing risk and improving service quality. Coordinate the work of guest reviewers who will provide assistance in completing the Credit Review Team’s risk based review schedule.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to: 

Duties for Both Job Grade Levels: 

  1. Standard Credit Review:
    • Complete credit reviews as provided by the sampling programs for Retail, other business units, and targeted reviews. This will require becoming proficient with systems and process across the Associations.
    • Coordinate the activities of guest reviewers who will assist in the conducting of review activities, and assure consistency among review team members in the review findings and supporting documentation.
    • Prepare scope selection for review activities based on credit risk assessments.
    • Develop sufficient analysis and documentation to support findings and recommendations and to identify significant trends.       Identify the root causes of trend or systemic findings and work with leaders to develop correction solutions.
    • Develop proactive relationships with retail and credit teams through periodic discussions and meetings.
    • Prepare written reports summarizing results, which will be provided and discussed with appropriate team members and leaders. These reports will focus on: credit quality classification correlation, service quality strengths and weaknesses, trends, and recommendations to enhance operations or correct deficiencies as noted.
    • Discuss the reports orally with appropriate retail and credit team members and leaders.
  2. Targeted Reviews and Other Focuses:
    • Construct value-add targeted review programs, which meet the objectives as specified by the Vice President Credit Review.
    • Independently carry out the approved targeted reviews to completion with minimal coaching.
    • Accurately record work performed and prepare written reports that convey the scope, objectives, findings and creative recommendations for all issues noted.
    • Perform research in the areas of credit best practices and prepare reports for use by the Associations in utilizing these best practice approaches.
    • Promote the Credit Review goals and objectives by securing positions on cross functional teams where credit issues or other processes are being developed.
    • Serve as a consultative resource to retail team members on credit related issues and processes.
    • Effectively communicate findings and recommendations to functional team members to achieve desired results

Additional Duties for Job Grade Level 25: 

  1. Provide informal credit underwriting and credit risk management leadership to other Credit Review team members. 
  2. Perform credit review work that focuses primarily on the Associations’ largest and most complex livestock and capital markets credits. These loans typically have loan commitments of $5-100 million. 
  3. Plan, coordinate, and execute the more complex business unit reviews and follow-up reviews with minimal guidance and at a high quality level. (e.g. AgriBusiness Finance, Capital Markets, Credit and Resolutions). 
  4. Identify areas for improvement in lending policies and procedures through leadership and insight into big picture risk management issues and trends. 
  5. Ensure the reliability and functionality of the credit review database used to select samples, document reviews, and generate reports.
    • Coordinates with the Application Development teams to implement changes requested by the credit review team.
    • Work with the Application Development teams when changes to other software applications ultimately impact the functionality of the credit review tool.
    • Trouble shoot errors in the credit review application and test the software once requested changes are made.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: 

Grade 23: Bachelors degree in business, finance, economics, agribusiness or equivalent experience. The ideal candidate will have four to six years related experience in credit review and/or auditing.

Grade 25: Bachelors degree in business, finance, economics, agribusiness or equivalent experience. Six to eight years related experience in credit review or auditing.

Duties require:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong demonstrated analytical, investigative, organizational skills and ability to articulate the values of a recommendation to users to ensure implementation occurs.
  • Excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to tactfully defend an accurate decision when challenged by review stakeholders.
  • Effective human relations skills and ability to develop strong relationships with leadership and others within the Associations.       Exhibit appropriate skill and care to not alienate or put the user in a defensive posture.
  • Strong knowledge of the credit process with a focus on risk mitigation and credit structures.
  • Strong understanding of service quality and the ability to understand and embrace the Associations’ administration policies and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of general appraisal guidelines and ability to understand and embrace those additional guidelines used by the Associations.
  • Knowledge of portfolio assessment and analysis processes and practices, including computer assisted methods.
  • Ability to obtain working knowledge of Farm Credit Administration regulations, AgriBank, Farm Credit Bank, and the Associations policies and standards.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments without sacrificing quality of work performed.
  • Ability to think outside the box and recommend alternatives and options to problems and issues.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and effectively demonstrate team building attitude and skills.
  • Proficient in Windows environment using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Internet Explorer.

Additional Specifications for Job Grade Level 25:

  • A solid understanding of lending in one or more complex industries such as swine facilities, custom feedlot operations, and/or dairy complexes.
  • Strong project facilitation skills for designing, implementing, and reporting on reviews initiated to address emerging risks. 

INTERNAL/EXTERNAL CONTACTS:

Frequent and on-going contact with Omaha, retail and credit leadership, Farm Credit Administration government regulator, and other external loan review leadership and staff.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to use computer. This involves reading the screen and keying/typing information.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and effectively demonstrate team building attitude and skills.
  • Proficient in Windows environment using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer.
  • Ability to reason, judge, compare, calculate, evaluate and critique such information as written materials, numerical data, responses to customer needs and/or other work related activities.
  • Ability to complete work in an acceptable timeframe and manage a variety of detailed tasks and responsibilities simultaneously and with accuracy to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives and satisfy internal and external customer needs related to the job.
  • Ability to understand and explain various subject matter and consult on concepts, programs, terminology and methods.
  • Ability to operate the telephone and respond to calls and in-person inquiries.
  • Ability to move about the office with occasional reaching, lifting and bending.
  • Ability to successfully interact with and represent the organization to staff, officers, board members, customers, industry specialists, and the public at all levels.
  • Ability to use a keyboard/calculator/computer. This involves reading the screen and keying/typing information.
  • Ability to use and understand various computer software related to carrying out essential responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to travel by auto or commercial transportation (up to 5%) to carry out essential responsibilities.
  • Ability to observe operational activities and examine results.
  • Uses and understands computer software related to carrying out essential responsibilities of this position.
