The Department of Public Safety protects and serves the Creighton community through proactive patrolling, rapid response, community outreach, security technology, and safe parking and transportation options. We seek to ensure that all members of our community can live, learn, work, and play in a safe and secure environment. Public Safety has primary responsibility for security enforcement, emergency management, campus safety, parking enforcement, and transportation on Creighton University’s Omaha Campus.
Our Licensed Commercial Drivers will operate various University vehicles, with and without passengers, to support the operational needs of the University. Drivers will comply with all traffic laws and regulations, as well as Department of Transportation (DoT) regulations applicable to the operation of the shuttle buses. Drivers will perform routine maintenance, refuel vehicles, and notify the senior manager of any major maintenance issues with University vehicles. Drivers will also provide feedback and report problems with any assigned shuttle routes or passengers. Drivers will complete mandated DoT documentation each shift in compliance with regulations and University procedures.
A successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to relate to all members of the Creighton community and a desire to help others. Additionally, the candidate should be a self-motivated person who can work independently with little supervision.
This position is a 10 month, part-time, non-benefit eligible position working 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm; Monday - Thursday, primarily during the school year. Other hours may be asked dependent upon department needs.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 6 months of relevant driving experience.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Ability to adeptly and safely operate a variety of University vehicles, including passenger vans and shuttle buses.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing.
• Interpersonal/human relation skills and ability to work with a diverse group of customers.
• Knowledge and familiarity of Department of Transportation (DoT) safety standards and regulations.
• Basic proficiency in MS Office products, including Word and Outlook.
• Ability to work outside in variable environmental conditions, including inclement weather, for extended periods of time.
• Willingness to be available or on-call on a rotational schedule and to work overtime as needed to support University operational requirements.
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement
Must have a clean driving record for the last 3 years and no major violations within the last 5 years.
