The TRiO Student Support Services Assistant Director is responsible for a team-based, proactive approach to intrusive interventions to aid in student success and leads the departmental recruitment and assessment efforts. This position involves collaborating with offices and departments across campus to ensure student success and accurate assessment of student and program information. The assistant director is responsible for the implementation, oversight, and reporting of federal requirements for this grant-funded position and its specific program. They also serve as an academic coach to an assigned cohort of SSS students.

Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a Grant/Contract over a specified period. Schedule includes working some evenings and occasional weekends

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the development plan, implementation, management, and evaluation of programs that support student recruitment, retention, and assessment strategies, including but not limited to: community and campus outreach, new SSS Student Orientation, ISN, and engagement events.
  • Coordinate and administer assessments to identify incoming student needs, monitor and record student progress through the completion of Individual Success plans, and collaborate to develop and implement appropriate support programs based on student need patterns, services or referrals.
  • Provide individualized coaching sessions for assigned students.
  • Assist with recruiting and select participants.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in education, counseling, student affairs, social work, or related fields required
  • Two years’ experience in leading recruitment and onboarding programming to support students transition to college preferred
  • Prior TRiO experience preferred

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Skilled in mentoring and working directly with high school and/or college student populations
  • Knowledge of the issues and challenges facing first-generation, low-income, students with disabilities, and underrepresented student populations in higher education
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Word Suite
  • Skilled in student development and knowledge of student advising or programming is helpful
