Creighton University is looking for a Associate Director for Student Accessibility Services
In accordance with Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA), Creighton University provides reasonable accommodations to qualified students and staff with documented disabilities. In this effort, the Associate Director serves a critical role in the implementation of a comprehensive program of services to meet the needs of students with disabilities within the framework of university policy and federal regulations, current and accepted learning theories, and available financial resources. This position is also responsible for providing leadership in the area of clinical accommodations and leads and represents the Office of Student Accessibility Services in the Director’s absence.
30% Manage individual caseload of registered students with disabilities; provide ongoing education and support to assigned students and assist with student interventions as needed; coach assigned students to self-advocate and understand their civil rights; maintain accurate and contemporaneous case notes.
20% Develop programmatic experiences and interventions for specified cohorts of students with disabilities, to include classes, co-curricular events, and success workshops.
20% Oversee student intake and self-registration process and evaluate academic and housing accommodation requests; interview students and assess supporting documentation to verify qualifying disabilities and student access needs under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504.
15% Assist with the SAS testing center (Omaha campus), to include in-person proctoring of exams for registered students; preparing and administering exams; and coordinating with faculty and students to administer exams for registered students. The Associate Director is expected to open the testing center for 8:00 am exams two times per week.
10% Liaison with the Office of Student and Family Support and provide direct services to students who are identified as retention risks and needing additional support. Coordinate CreightonConnect alerts and documentation for the SAS Office.
5% Work with faculty, administrators, and third-party supervisors to assess and coordinate clinical (non-classroom) accommodations while ensuring that each student, with or without reasonable accommodations, can meet all technical standards and academic requirements of their academic program.
- Masters Degree in counseling, psychology or social work or related educational field required.
-Minimum three + (3+) to five (5) years’ experience working in a disability accommodations office environment at a post-secondary (preferred) or secondary level.
- Knowledge and awareness of ADA laws, policies, and regulations, and how they impact higher education.
- Direct experience counseling and advising students.
