Creighton University School of Dentistry is seeking a Registered Dental Hygienist to support and develop the clinical curriculum to provide dental students with a broad spectrum of experiences in the treatment of the dental patient. The Creighton Dental Clinic, conveniently located in Omaha on the Creighton campus, is dedicated to providing quality care, and offers a full range of dental services. More than 14,000 patients visit us each year, because we deliver on our commitment to excellence at an affordable cost. We admit as many patients as we can whose dental needs match the educational needs of our students.

This benefit-eligible, non-tenure track Adjunct Instructor position will work collaboratively and professionally with the Dental team faculty, staff and students and is responsible and accountable in the teaching of the Dental Students to make quality patient care a priority and meet the oral health needs of the patients. In addition, the hygienist will keep the education of the Dental students his/her primary objective on daily basis.

Education & Experience:
Five+ years Clinical Dental Hygienist experience
Teaching experience preferred
Strong organizational and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a collegial, interdisciplinary environment.

Required Licenses/Certifications:
Current Registered Dental Hygienist License issued by the State of Nebraska

Essential Functions:

As a Registered Dental Hygienist- Adjunct Instructor, you will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing multiple students in their intra/extra oral examinations and medical history intake.

  • Assisting students in the Periodontal classification of their patients, Caries risk assessment, appropriate treatment, and ensuring follow up appointments.

  • Instructing the students on exploring for calculus and correct use of the Periodontal probe, the use of hand scaling instruments and ultrasonic scalers, sharpening instruments, smoking cessation counseling and adjunctive oral aids.

  • Evaluating the Dental students’ performance of scaling and root planing (removal of calculus and biofilm), patient education and quality of care given to the patient.

  • Assisting the students in screening for periodontal patients for boards and encourage them meet their clinical requirements.

  • Attending meetings approved by Creighton Dental School that requires advancement of the profession.

  • Approving codes, notes and grade the student in AxiUM Electronic Health Record

  • Following OSHA, standard of care procedures and Universal precautions, report infractions.

This is a ten-month, part-time, faculty position.
