Since the year 2000, Health Sciences Multicultural and Community Affairs (HS-MACA) has embraced diversity on campus, in the community and globally. HS-MACA serves as the foundation for a variety of “pipeline” programs. These programs serve students from grade school to college to professional school by providing educational opportunities and exposure that allows diverse students to be competitive applicants for health science schools. In addition, our programs provide information to young individuals so that they will consider health professions as a career of choice in the future.  The Health Sciences Multicultural and Community Affairs mission is to promote Creighton University as a recognized leader in the training and development of a multicultural health care workforce that serves to reduce health disparities in underserved and diverse communities through research, culturally proficient education, community interaction and engagements through Ignatian values.

 

The Assistant Director will recruit disadvantaged students for the Health Sciences and all HS-MACA "Pipeline" programs. Coordinate the efforts of the Health Science professional schools in disadvantaged recruitment and provides activities and programs for disadvantaged students retention in the Health Sciences. Coordinate Post baccalaureate operation from advising potential students’ recruitment and retention practices, tracking through professional schools and after graduation.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts and coordinates minority student recruitment and retention activities in the Health Sciences, the post baccalaureate, pre matriculation programs and all the pipeline programs in HSMACA. Provides formal and informal advising, communicates, and develops interviewing, orientation and retention activities for health professions students

  • Recruits medical students for COPC health disparity research, supervises the identification and recruitment of speakers and students to participate in Common Ground as part of COPC activity, selection and awarding of qualified students as required by COPC grant, oversees the tracking of medical students for COPC tutoring as part of the program

  • Provides supervision and assistance with HS-MACA communications personnel on brochures, social media and newsletter development, and manages administrative functions that may arise.

  • Coordinates the pre-medical and pre-dental post baccalaureate interviewees, scholarship committee, post baccalaureate alumni events, and pre-matriculation program for pre-medical, pre-dental and pre-pharmacy students. Tracks the alumni of all HSMACA programs

  • Serves as initial point of contact for anyone interested in seeking more information regarding Creighton Health Professions Schools and the Post baccalaureate program.

  • Supervises the HS-MACA Pipeline program activities and produces the HS-MACA newsletter, and all communication media (Facebook, twitter etc.)
