Creighton University invites applications for the Manager of the Integrated Biomedical Imaging Facility. This role oversees a state-of-the art service facility by performing a broad range of complex laboratory and research related assessments and self-evaluations, acting as a specialist on laboratory methods and equipment functions, performing a variety of tests requiring a high degree of proficiency, troubleshooting problems and recommends solution, evaluating experiment results using complex statistical and multivariate analysis.
The primary role is to manage the day-to-day operations of the Integrated Biomedical Imaging Facility and the Translational Hearing Center, including several types of confocal and multiphoton microscopes, a tunable near-infrared laser, and advanced analytical software applications (Velocity). Proficiency with imaging platforms from all major vendors (including Nikon, Leica, Zeiss, and Olympus) is essential. The instruments have multiple imaging capabilities and therefore selecting the appropriate instrument for a users task is especially important. Additional responsibilities include maintaining instruments in excellent working order, performing regular quality assurance checks, and interfacing with technical service personnel from the various vendors; conducting training sessions for new users (around 50 per year) advising users on optimizing imaging protocols; keeping billing records; keeping current with the latest information in a rapidly developing field of research.
This position is supported by multiple state and federally funded research grants (NIH, NE-INBRE, COBRE), and requires attendance at organizational meetings and will contribute to the preparation of progress reports, presentations, and future grant submissions.
This position is partially grant funded.
This position will work Monday-Friday; 8am-4:30pm, though some tasks may be completed remotely. Depending upon research needs position may require working beyond normal business hours (i.e. evening, weekend, and holiday).
Masters degree in related field of Science required,
6-8 years research lab experience
Supervisory experience required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Proficiency with imaging platforms from all major vendors (including Nikon, Leica, Zeiss, and Olympus);
Prior experience using confocal and multiphoton microscopes, a tunable near-infrared laser, and advanced analytical software applications (Velocity) preferred;
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook);
Strong work ethic, excellent written and communication skills;
Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community (i.e. students, staff, and faculty);
Experience in writing manuscripts, etc.;
Analytical skills required;
Ability to coordinate and prioritize work with multiple and conflicting demands in a deadline-oriented environment;
Demonstrate ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team;
Ability to work at times evening, weekend, and holiday work depending upon needs.
