Job Description

A postdoctoral scholar "postdoc" is an individual holding a doctoral degree who is engaged in a temporary and defined period, typically less than 5 years, of mentored research and/or advanced scholarly training for the purpose of acquiring the professional skills needed to pursue a career path of his/her choosing. Performs research under the supervision and mentorship of a more senior researcher, often called the postdoctoral advisor. Provides senior-level technical lab support by designing and performing experiments and research related tasks. Evaluates experiment results using complex statistical and multivariate analysis. Prepares data for publication and assists in writing grant proposals.


Specifically, this lab lab focuses on development of drugs for auditory protection against chemotherapy, noise and aging. The work employs cell-based screenings, cochlear explants cultures and in vivo animal models to test the drugs.  Candidates with experience in molecular biology, mouse cochlear dissection and transtympanic injection techniques, translational medicine, cell culture, mouse genetics, medicinal chemistry, drug pharmacokinetics and dynamics would be given preference.

1. CDK2 inhibitors as candidate therapeutics for cisplatin- and noise-induced hearing lossTeitz T. et al. J Exp Med. 2018 Apr 2; 215(4)\:1187-1203.
2. Development of cell-based high-throughput chemical screens for protection against cisplatin-induced ototoxicity. Teitz T. et al. Methods Mol Biol. 2016; 1427\:419-30.

Qualifications\:

Doctorate Degree;

1-3 years' experience; experience in molecular biology, mouse cochlear dissection and transtympanic injection techniques, translational medicine, cell culture, mouse genetics, medicinal chemistry, drug pharmacokinetics and dynamics preferred. 

  

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities\:

Strong ability to interpret data and to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues;

Strong work ethic, excellent written and communication skills, and the ability to work independently;

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel; PowerPoint and Outlook;

Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays depending upon research needs
