THE OPPORTUNITY
 

Creighton University, a Jesuit, Catholic university located in Omaha, Nebraska, seeks applications and nominations for the next dean of the school of Pharmacy and Health Professions.

 

Established in 1905, the school educates pharmacy, occupational therapy and physical therapy students in the Jesuit tradition, infusing values related to service, justice, striving for excellence and caring for the whole person throughout its curricular and co-curricular programs. The dean will lead efforts to continue in the schoolâ??s tradition of innovative teaching, learning, research, scholarship and patient/ client-centered care. She or he also will carry on the schoolâ??s heritage of inclusive leadership by considering the diverse perspectives of members of the schoolâ??s and Universityâ??s community when making leadership decisions, as well as in the development of leaders.

 
DEANâ??S ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 

Key Opportunities and Challenges for SPAHP Dean

The next dean of the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions (SPAHP) will join the University at a time of challenge and tremendous opportunity. She or he will serve as a key member of the University leadership team and will lead a school that enrolls more than 1,400 studentsâ??drawn from 46 states and 44 countries and employs 117 educators who comprise a world-class faculty.

 
The dean will\:
 
  • Play a crucial role in defining the next era of the school and addressing a number of key strategic and operational priorities.
  • Articulate a forward-thinking vision that builds upon and celebrates the schoolâ??s history and identity; continue to foster strong and transparent cooperation and kinship to ensure alignment among faculty, staff and students; and further engage with the schoolâ??s external community, including a loyal alumni base of more than 7,000.
  • Work within the school and the broader University to further strengthen the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, building on its established excellence and adapting to future trends in health education.
  • Provide thoughtful and inclusive leadership in the interest of continuing progress in diversity among faculty, students and the entire schoolâ??s community.

QUALIFICATIONS
 
Education
 
  • Clinically relevant degree in the health sciences required (pharmacy, occupational therapy or physical therapy preferred).
  • Doctoral degree required, academic doctorate preferred.
 
Experience
 

Established record as a health sciences educator, practitioner, scholar and leader. Minimum of five years of academic experience. Qualified by merit or equivalent experience for the rank of professor.

 
  • Academic Educator\: established record of educating health sciences students (pharmacy, OT or PT preferred).
  • Clinical Practice\: experience with or broad understanding
  • of complex issues of pharmacy, OT and PT practice in todayâ??s health care environment, with a vision for future practice.
  • Research/Scholarship\: established record of research and scholarly achievement at a national/international level.
  • Service\: ability to support and foster community engagement within the University, community and the health sciences.
  • Academic Administrator\: proven ability to manage a complex academic enterprise, typically obtained through experience as a dean, associate dean, assistant dean, department chair, or center or institute director within a college of pharmacy, occupational therapy or physical therapy. Prior administrative experience incorporating strategic and operational planning, preparation and management of a budget, personnel organization and management, and academic educational or health-system alliances. Track record of recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty and staff.
  • Diversity and Inclusion\: experience in leading, overseeing or contributing to diversity and inclusion efforts in a previous position.
  • Global Engagement\: equipped to continue the schoolâ??s work in recruiting and supporting faculty and students from global backgrounds, as well as through community engagement.
