Job Description

A postdoctoral scholar "postdoc" is an individual holding a doctoral degree who is engaged in a temporary and defined period, typically less than 5 years, of mentored research and/or advanced scholarly training for the purpose of acquiring the professional skills needed to pursue a career path of his/her choosing. Performs research under the supervision and mentorship of a more senior researcher, often called the postdoctoral advisor. Provides senior-level technical lab support by designing and performing experiments and research related tasks. Evaluates experiment results using complex statistical and multivariate analysis. Prepares data for publication and assists in writing grant proposals.

Specifically, this Postdoc is available for highly motivated candidates who are interested in prion diseases. Our research studies prion strain biology, prion pathogenesis and the environmental fate of prions. The Department of Microbiology is interested in training a motivated postdoctoral fellow in areas of prion strain evolution using a combination of cutting-edge in vitro techniques and in vivo transmission studies. We are interested in understanding the molecular basis of how prion strains evolve and adapt to new environments and how strain tropism, strain interference and strain dynamics contribute to this process. Ideal candidate will be expected to develop the project independently and will also have the opportunity to interact and participate in other studies of our multidisciplinary group of prion researchers. Our research team highly values creativity and independence in a collaborative and collegial academic environment.

Successful candidates will have a recent doctorate in areas related to protein misfolding diseases or virology, supported by strong publications. Prior experience in protein biochemistry or evolutionary biology would be advantageous.

Applicants/candidates will need to submit a single PDF that contains a cover letter, CV, relevant prior publications, and three references.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Please note, this position is Grant Funded

This position will work Monday-Friday; 8am-4\:30pm; depending upon research needs position may require working beyond normal business hours, including weekend/holiday.
