Job Summary: Provide assistance and support to company attorneys and the legal department by conducting legal research on regulatory related issues, generating drafts, and summaries of legal documents. Assist with the coordination of outside legal counsel activity and perform any research required to help with projects as well as any legal functions for the company. Also assists with regulatory reporting.
Education: Associate Degree or 2 Yrs. Specialized Training in Business Administration or Paralegal Studies or equivalent knowledge to perform the job.
Work Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience as a paralegal or certified Legal assistant preferably in a corporate setting. Experience drafting contracts, working with compliance issues, and researching legal and regulatory issues preferred.
Technical Skills: Knowledge of a variety of appropriate laws and regulations in functional area of expertise to understand, interpret and administer company policies and practices. May utilize specialized software packages in performance of job duties, and solve typical application problems. General functional area certification required as an indication of expertise at this level that is used throughout the performance of job duties and responsibilities. Must have experience working with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Access.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Characteristics Specified to Job: Attendance is required with a physical presence of the employee at the workplace during scheduled hours of work. Handling reasonably necessary stressors of the job and working reasonably well with others. Workplace Environment: Workflow and nature of essential job functions although somewhat standard, processing of work requires mental and visual focus. Business necessitated interruptions occur occasionally and restarting work processes requires the need to briefly review ending points and statuses.
Special Physical Requirements: The work performed is sedentary and the job allows employees to remain seated or to sit and stand intermittently to perform most duties. Less than 10% of the time will be spent performing physical activities and the job does not involve stooping, crawling or kneeling except in occasional situations. However, a negligible amount of lifting, pulling and pushing may be required to perform the work and some walking, standing, and manual dexterity may be required in routine activities such as carrying papers, opening file drawers, operating basic office equipment and driving a car.
