Children's is searching for a Surgical Technologist II to performs a variety of preparatory, scrubbing and related duties necessary to provide patient care in the Operating Room specialty service capacity. Assist with surgical cases in all surgical specialties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares the operating room by reviewing case cart and supplying it with supplies and instruments to provide appropriate patient care
- Assembles supplies and equipment for scheduled procedure according to the physicians preferences and the procedure
- Inspects equipment for proper working condition
- Maintain sterile practices when opening packages and preparing for the procedure
- Prepare for specialty cases and maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements and techniques.
- Participate in time out/sign out processes
- Maintains the sterile field during the procedure.
- Follow principles of aseptic technique and appropriate operating/procedure room procedures following AORN guidelines.
- Scrubs to assist the surgeon in the completion of surgical procedures by demonstrating a working knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment needed for a variety of procedures.
- Anticipates the needs of the surgeon, passing instruments and providing sterile items in an efficient manner, as directed by the surgeon Practices sharps safety techniques (safety zone, safe passing)
- Performs appropriate counts prior to the operation and before incision is closed
- Prepares and labels fluids and medications on the sterile field
- Prepares specimens for pathologic analysis
- Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization
- Assists operating room team with environmental cleaning and case turnovers
- Maintains availability of instruments and supplies to avoid delays
- Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the operating room for immediate access during procedure.
- Store and stock supplies as needed
- Updates preference cards following each procedure to ensure appropriate supplies are available and communicates to service lead
- Assist with OR patient care processes as directed by nursing and anesthesia
- Participates in assigned on call activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technologist OR applicable surgical technologist course of study required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working as a Surgical Technologist and competency in scrubbing in 2 or more surgical specialties as a Surgical Technologist required
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
- Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association is required.
- Current and valid Surgical Technologist certification preferred
