Nights, 7p-7a, every other weekend, rotating holidays

Were searching for a Paramedic Inpatient to provide high quality, individualized, family centered care to pediatric patients/families. Care of the patient is supported through the use of the Paramedic scope of practice in accordance with standards and hospital policies and procedures. Varied schedules to include weekend and holiday patterns

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts individualized age-specific patient/family assessments according to defined paramedic standards, or protocols. (Individualized refers to the patients developmental, cognitive, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational/family influences and physical/medical care needs.)
  • Initial Assessment:
  • Collects and documents data related to patients individualized care.
  • Demonstrates age-specific competency in assessment of patients by the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient needs, knowledge of growth and development, and understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients.
  • Assesses patient/family need for education and uses an individualized approach in delivery style.
  • Assess and interprets patient data upon arrival at the referring hospital.
  • Reassessment:
  • Performs reassessment based on unit standards, protocols and changes in patient condition. Communicates changes to appropriate persons (RN, CNC, MD, family) as indicated.
  • Adheres to individualized patient/family plan of care to meet identified needs. (Plan of Care includes current and anticipated actions focused on stabilization, care, and transport needs).
  • Utilizes assessment data to individualize patient care and transport needs.
  • Utilizes individualized assessment data to develop the patient/familys plan of care.
  • Revises plan of care based on patients condition
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize patient interventions based on assessments/reassessments.
  • Implements and evaluates actions in accordance with the individualized patient/family plan of care and patient condition/needs.
  • Incorporates critical thinking into the delivery of clinical skills and in analyzing patient response to orders, tests, labs, medications, and treatments.
  • Demonstrates clinical competence in administering interventions according to identified standards and age specific needs.
  • Prioritizes and organizes care based on patient acuity, time limitations and consultation with RN or physician. Initiates action to prevent current or potential risk to a patient in an emergency situation.
  • Documentation reflects accurate assessment/evaluation, modification, and patients response to therapy, changes in condition, and therapeutic interventions/procedures
  • Entries into in the electronic medical record follow documentation policy.
  • Documentation is completed within established timeframes.
  • Accepts assignment to mentor EMT and paramedic students when scheduled.
  • Accepts assignments to share/teach knowledge and provide clinical support as a relief preceptor for new staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritizing skills

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of a Paramedic program required.
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Emergency Medical Services or related health care field preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of ALS or hospital based paramedic experience required.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

  • Current and Valid Nebraska Paramedic license required.
  • Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association is required.
  • Current and valid Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required, within 6 months of hire.
  • Current and Valid Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred.
  • National Registry as a Paramedic preferred.
  • Current and valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 6-months of hire. Employees hired prior to December 2, 2019 are required to obtain ACLS by December 31, 2020.
