Description

We re searching for an Accountant who will be responsible for maintaining general ledger account balances in conformity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Examine accounting documents for accuracy and ensures compliance with policies, procedures and accounting standards. Assist with the month end close process.

Essential FunctionS

  • Analyzes general ledger account balances
  • Understands chart of accounts
  • Assists in preparation of accounting reports and reconciliations
  • Reconciles bank statements
  • Suggests new accounting procedures and recommends improvements
  • Compiles financial information and assists in preparation of reports
  • Prepares journal entries
  • Determines expenses for services and distributes costs
  • Maintains and reconciles certain general ledger accounts
  • Reconciles sub systems to the general ledger
  • Prepares accounting and statistical reports for departments
  • Applies applicable accounting and reporting rules, and government regulations
  • Records financial transactions in accordance with GAAP and not-for profit entities accounting and auditing guide
  • Participates in auditing projects
  • Properly treat donor-imposed restrictions
  • Responsible for monitoring and distributing grants in partnership with Foundation management
  • Responsible for sales and use tax, raffle and lottery filings and other misc. tax filings
  • Reconciles general ledger to grant reporting and tracking software
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Knowledge of AICPA not-for-profit accounting and audit guide
  • Familiarity with laws and regulations that apply to accounting and compliance
  • Familiarity with automated accounting systems
  • Understanding of GAAP
  • Knowledge of MS Office including Excel
  • Knowledge of appropriate accounting software programs
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university in finance, accounting, or related field required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in demonstrated financial functions with a variety of complex, multi-faceted projects required, preferably in a healthcare setting
  • Experience working with financial systems, including operations, decision support, forecasting and modeling, analysis, statistics and budgeting preferred
  • Foundation accounting experience preferred
