    Description

    Pediatric Nephrologist

Children’s Hospital & Medical Center, together with the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), is currently recruiting a board certified/eligible Pediatric Nephrologist to join a thriving academic practice. The Division of Pediatric Nephrology currently comprises four physicians and two nurse practitioners, a nurse case manager, dedicated clinic and dialysis nurses, pharmacists, a dietitian, transplant coordinators, social workers, child life, a music therapist, and education specialist.  We provide full service pediatric nephrology care, serving patients from prenatal consultation through transition to adult nephrology. We provide comprehensive inpatient nephrology care and consultation at both Children’s Medical Center and UNMC’s flagship hospital, Nebraska Medicine. We conduct multidisciplinary clinics at both medical centers, including combined clinics at CHMC with pediatric urologists as part of a new Nephrology/Urology service line. We provide dialysis services through the only Pediatric Dialysis unit in the state. We provide medical management of kidney transplant patients in close collaboration with transplant surgeons at Nebraska Medicine.

This is a unique opportunity with unlimited potential to advance a strong clinical and academic career in Pediatric Nephrology. We seek a physician with a passion for quality patient care. This individual will share general pediatric nephrology clinical care responsibilities, including inpatient care and consultation, supervision of hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and CRRT, kidney biopsies, and outpatient nephrology clinics, kidney transplant clinics, and outpatient dialysis clinics. Candidates will have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Our division is collegial and supportive, and we seek individuals with strong emotional and social intelligence and a demonstrated ability to connect with others in a meaningful way at all levels of the organization and university.

The position includes a competitive salary and a faculty appointment commensurate with prior rank and experience at UNMC. The Department of Pediatrics has a strategic goal of growing clinical and translational research, quality improvement, and continuing excellence in teaching medical students, residents, fellows, and allied health professionals.  Exciting research opportunities are available, with potential support from the Child Health Research Institute, NIH ECHO and IDeA states funding. Existing research projects involve collaboration with Urology, Surgery, Neonatology, and Physiology, and industry sponsored clinical trials. We are active members of the Midwest Pediatric Nephrology Research Consortium. Quality improvement projects are welcomed, and we participate in SCOPE, IROC, and NAPRTCs.

Children’s is a vibrant, free-standing pediatric teaching hospital and Nebraska’s only full- service pediatric specialty health care center focused on extraordinary clinical care, education, clinical and outcomes research, and advocacy. The hospital is embarking on transformational programmatic and physical growth to address our local, regional, and national patient care. The hospital has a Level IV NICU, Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, Specialized Clinical Pediatric Services, and 24/7 Pediatric Intensivists.  We have 50+ Specialty Clinics, 200+ Specialists, 14 Satellite Offices, multiple Pediatric Fellowship programs, and are Magnet Certified.  Our new campus expansion project includes adding 100 beds to the existing 145, expansion of the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, Fetal Care Center and Fetal Surgery, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Center including dedicated intensive care, Short-Stay Observation Unit, Emergency Department, and Surgical Services. The expansion will also provide new facilities to support education and clinical and outcomes research.

As Nebraska’s only public academic health sciences center, UNMC is committed to the education of a 21st century health care work force, to finding cures and treatments for devastating diseases, to providing the best care for patients, and to serving our state and its communities through award-winning outreach. UNMC has six colleges and two institutes, serving about 3,700 students in more than two dozen programs. UNMC excellence spans all disciplines from primary care through organ transplantation; UNMC is one of a few centers offering small bowel and multivisceral transplantation, and averages 8-10 isolated pediatric kidney transplants annually.
