Job Description

Just like the children we serve, Children's is growing quickly and hiring a Documentation and Coding Educator who is responsible for researching, developing, and implementing documentation/coding educational programs that follow Instructional Design and Adult learning best practices, for Children’s employed providers.  In addition, the Educator will conduct new provider reviews and present documentation/coding educational materials to Children’s providers.

  1. Responsible for researching, developing, and implementing documentation/coding educational programs that follow Instructional Design and Adult learning best practices. 
  • Expand and implement provider education programs in documentation/coding following Instructional Design and Adult learning.  To include but not limited to classes, online modules, and curricula. 
  • Creates and maintains documentation/coding presentation, tip sheets, newsletters, and other materials as identified. 
  • Researches governmental and payer-specific rules and regulations for documentation/coding compliance and create training materials to facilitate education regarding these changes.
  • Collaborates with Children’s Coding and Billing Compliance team to facilitate educational and resource development on regulatory and compliance related issues.

  1. Conduct new provider reviews providing education/feedback.   
  • Conduct a new provider review on all Children’s billing providers as part of the provider on boarding process, assuring adherence to policy.
  • Provide documentation/coding opportunities to the provider and other key stakeholders.
  • Develop and distribute a monthly status update to leadership.

  1. . Present documentation/coding education to Children’s providers. 
  • Present at the new provider orientation and provide ongoing education.
  • Provide educational classes to group or individual providers.
  • Collaborate with compliance to assure consistent message is delivered to the providers

5%

  1. Stays abreast of changes in the industry by keeping current with CMS, Medicaid, HIPAA and payor billing regulations as well as market changes.  Accountable for professional development through active participation in HFMA, CHCA and other professional organizations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of billing CPT and ICD coding required
  • Proficient in Epic Electronic Health Record and Billing Systems
  • Ability to pay attention to detail
  • Ability to provide a pleasant and welcoming appearance to all with which you come in contact
  • Ability to read, write, type, and follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to work independently to effectively and efficiently perform assigned duties
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills, pleasant attitude and proven ability to work effectively with others
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field is required or four (4) years of curriculum development, instructional design, adult learning, or program development may be considered in lieu of education requirement
  • Minimum 3 years of experience directly related to documentation & coding for hospital and/or physician services required
  • Two (2) years of experience with curriculum development, instructional design, adult learning or program development preferred

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

  • CPC (Certified Coding Profession) or ACA (Certified Coding Associate) certification required
