Section Chief – Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiologist
Children’s Hospital & Medical Center, with the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, is currently recruiting a Section Chief of Pediatric Anesthesiology. Children’s is a vibrant, free-standing pediatric teaching hospital and Nebraska’s only full service pediatric specialty health care center focused on extraordinary clinical care, education, clinical and outcomes, basic science and translational research, and advocacy. The hospital is embarking on transformational programmatic and physical growth to address our local, regional, national and global patient care. The hospital has a Level IV Regional NICU, Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, Specialized Clinical Pediatric Services, and 24/7 Pediatric Intensivists. We have 50+ Specialty Clinics, 200+ Specialists, 14 Satellite Offices, multiple Pediatric Fellowship programs, and is Magnet Certified. Our new campus expansion plans include an additional 100+ beds to the existing 145, expansion to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, Fetal Care Center and Fetal Surgery, Infant MRI, full urology support with new urodynamic suite, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Center including dedicated intensive care, Short-Stay Observation Unit, Emergency Department, and new operating rooms, one which will have intraoperative MRI and navigational system. The expansion will also provide new facilities to support education and clinical and outcomes research.
The cardiac program is ranked #15 in US News and World Report for 2018 and is currently undergoing growth and expansion by adding a second Hybrid lab (July 2019) and second cardiac OR (July 2021). The program has three cardiac surgeons and is currently recruiting a 4th cardiac surgeon. The Section of Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology has 6 experienced cardiac anesthesiologists (4.5 clinical FTE) who care for all cardiac patients for cardiac or non-cardiac surgeries including diagnostic procedures. The cardiac anesthesiologists are very active in clinical, education, research, and leadership activities. The program is known for fast track extubation. A pediatric cardiac anesthesiology fellowship program will train the first fellow starting in July 2019. Also, pediatric anesthesiology fellows (2 a year) and adult cardiothoracic anesthesia fellows (2 a year) rotate within the section. The division of pediatric anesthesiology is composed of 24 board certified pediatric anesthesiologists (19 clinical FTE). Reporting directly to the Division Chief, this leader will be responsible to develop and implement the clinical, educational, research, and advocacy goals of the cardiac program and the institution. The successful candidate will be Board Certified in Pediatric Anesthesiology with extensive pediatric cardiac anesthesia experience, preferably in a leadership role to provide clinical leadership for this growing section. The Child Health Research Institute was established in 2017 and provides start-up and gap funding and infrastructure for clinical, basic science, or translational research. We specifically seek candidates committed to developing research activities and expanding the academic portfolio of the section. Allocation of protected non clinical time will be based on the candidate’s research activities and record of academic accomplishment, if applicable. Successful candidates will hold a faculty appointment at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine.
