Job Description

Just like the children we serve, Children's is growing quickly and hiring a Cook for Food & Nutrition Services. Prepare patient and cafeteria food items according to standardized recipes. Maintain food quality standards by using proper cooking techniques and following food safety guidelines.

Essential Functions/Competencies

% of Time



Serves as a role model of service excellence by demonstrating proper portions, presentation, clean as you go, and by demonstrating positive people skills.


1.       Prepares menu items per standard recipe procedures.


2.       Participates in quality improvement initiatives including taste panel and test trays.


3.       Participates in financial management process by carefully monitoring quantities prepared vs. served, inventory usage, portion control, and recipe compliance.


4.       Participates in patient/customer satisfaction efforts by participating in planning/implementing specials and menu changes.


Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.


Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section



1.        Displays food in an attractive manner on serving lines enhancing customer buying.


2.        Oversees departmental activities in absence of supervisor and leads.


3.        Performs other duties as assigned




Knowledge of institutional cooking

Knowledge of basic food safety techniques

Knowledge of basic ordering/inventory principles

Knowledge of HACCP principles

Skill in recipe preparation

Skill in compliance to closing protocols

Ability to lead staff in the absence of a supervisor or lead

Ability to adjust food production using historical data



High school diploma or G.E.D preferred

Minimum of six months experience in food service, food preparation, or related field required



Current and valid Douglas County Food Handlers Certification required within six months of hire
