Job Description

Just like the children we serve, Children’s is growing quickly and hiring Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) to perform patient care duties that are related to carrying out the multi-disciplinary care for each pediatric patient. Provide basic, age appropriate care to patients under direct supervision of the RN.


Essential Functions/Competencies

% of Time



  1. Provides basic age appropriate care to patients and collects assessment data.
  • Completes delegated tasks such as vital signs, weight, height, head circumference, and ordering of emergency med sheet.
  • Provides pre and post –op cares under direct supervision of the RN.     
  • Communicates completion of tasks and reports any clinical changes to the RN.
  • Documentation is accurate and timely


  1. Facilitates patient flow.
  • Facilitates patient flow by accompanying patients and families to their room when needed.
  • Verifies accuracy of patient labels.  Notifies appropriate personnel if information incorrect.
  • Assists the RN by escorting the patient and family out of the unit when discharged.


  1. Orderly patient care rooms
  • Ensure patient care rooms are clean and ready for the next patient.
  • Carts are cleaned with the proper disinfectant between patients.
  • Patient care rooms are restocked with the appropriate items.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition.


  1. Performs clerical support duties.
  • Answers phones when assigned.
  • Takes appropriate action to ensure adequate supply of pre- made charts.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of supply needs.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Willingly seeks opportunities to help team members during shift as needed.
  • Accepts and completes other assigned tasks in a professional manner
  • Accepts assignments to share/teach knowledge, and provide support as a preceptor for new child care partner staff.


Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

Performs other duties as assigned





  • Desire good communications skills
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Hospital experience preferred
  • Completion of a certified nursing assistant training course or currently a nursing student required


  • Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • Current and valid nursing aide licensure required or if nursing student must have completed a minimum of two years of schooling
