Job Description



Just like the children we serve, Children's is growing quickly and hiring a Lead Tech Neurodiagnostics to act as a clinical role model and mentor in multi-modality neurodiagnostic testing through competency and experience in the performance of multi-modality neurodiagnostic testing on pediatric and adult populations. To aid in assuring appropriate orientation, competency assessment and professional growth for all neurodiagnostic techs within the organization. To assist manager and do-workers in identifying and developing systems, structures and processes that support high quality service, outcomes measures, and current clinical practice.  



Essential Functions/Competencies

1.       Performs high quality neurodiagnostic tests on pediatric and adult patients according to department policy and in accordance with standards of practice.

         Gathers pertinent medical history to aid neurologist in the interpretation of data gathered during the testing.

         Prepares patient and caregiver for diagnostic exam by providing education/instruction at a level that is easily understood

         Uses appropriate distraction techniques involving caregivers to aid in the successful completion of tests

         Performs and records electroencephalography (EEG), electroretinography (ERG), evoked potentials (EP), and Long-Term Video Electroencephalography (LTVEEG)

         Assists neurologists in the completion of and recording of electromyography (EMG)

         Assesses and /trouble shoots to minimize the risk of poor or incomplete data collection.

         Role models exceptional customer services skills during interactions with patients, caregivers, fellow team members

         Takes appropriate actions when addressing patient care issues, concerns or complaints

         Manages daily and monthly schedules to assure testing is completed in a timely manner


2.       Assists with the management of health information

         Assists neurologists in the timely reporting of test results by proofreading and correcting errors prior to physician review

         Takes appropriate actions to communicate with physicians and expedite test result reporting

         Utilizes processes that facilitate charge capture and charge reconciliation of the procedure charges and professional fees.

         Utilizes processes that accurately record departmental statistical data


3.       Assists in the development and growth of the neurodiagnostic staff

         Assists in the selection of new team members

         Creates an individualized orientation plan for new hires

         Develops, implements and evaluates skill validation/competencies for new technicians. Counsels/coaches/mentors new techs during the orientation period

         Develops, implements, evaluates and maintains education programs based on staff needs, staff requests, department direction/vision, new equipment/care practices, new program development, & performance improvement projects

         Works with individuals and team to identify areas of strength and growth opportunities. Utilizes information to develop plans that support the personal and professional growth and development of each individual and the team.

         Collaborates with manager in providing the technicians with input on individual employee competencies and professional development needs through the annual performance review process.


4.       Assists manager and team in identifying and developing systems, structures, processes and programs that support high quality service, outcomes measures, current clinical practice, program growth & fiscally responsible practice

         Maintains current knowledge of national standards, research based practice guidelines, best practice protocols and utilizes knowledge to enhance and direct clinical care

         Assists manager and team with identifying, collecting, assessing and utilizing outcomes measures specific to neurodiagnostic testing

         Continuously assesses and reassesses services provided within the department, identifies opportunities for improvement and growth, develops and implements plan for establishing practices that meet patient care needs.

         Assists manager in the development of an operating budget addressing staffing needs, revenues and expenses and assists with the analysis and explanation of variances from budget.

         Involves Medical Director for Neurology and Neurodiagnostics appropriately in discussions and decision-making regarding the Neurodiagnostic program


Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

1.        Performs other duties as assigned





  •          Able to communicate effectively
  •          Requires basic computer skills


  •          Graduate from an accredited college or university in a neurodiagnostic technology program or certification required.
  •          Minimum 2 years experience as a Neurodiagnostics technician required.
  •          Must be board eligible and requires successful completion of registration in EEG by the American Board Registration Electroencephalographic Technologists Society (ABRETT)required, within two years of hire
  •          Candidates may be considered with on-the-job training if they have a current and valid American Board Registration Electroencephalographic Technologists Society (ABRETT) required.



  •          Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
