Job Description


GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for providing both administrative and clinical services to patients in the specialty clinics.

Essential Functions/Competencies

1. Establishes, organizes, scans, files and maintains medical records.

2. Orders and maintains appropriate levels of supplies and equipment.

3. Demonstrates communication skills using appropriate medical terminology.

4. Employs professional telephone and interpersonal communication techniques.

5. Schedules, coordinates and monitors patient appointments.

6. Performs general office functions.

7. Confirm pharmacy refills as necessary ensuring it is consistent with last notes and plan of care

8. Receive requests from families for refills, ensure provider verifies the medication/dosage and refill is consistent with current documentation and plan of care

9. Obtain prior authorizations through working with the appropriate insurance companies on behalf of the patient. Informing the patient of any special circumstances with their insurance (e.g., Medicaid, etc.)

10. Employs professional telephone and interpersonal communication techniques.

11. Performs accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.

12. Complies with performance improvement practices.


Carry out CLINICAL duties according to standard operating procedures and scope of practice to include, but not limited to:

1. Performs and records initial patient screening.

2. Escorts patients to examination rooms.

3. Provides patient education with regards to office policies, medications, management of disease, home treatments and special diets.

4. Prepares patients for examinations and performs routine screening tests.

5. Assists the physician with exams when necessary.

6. Collects phlebotomy and other lab specimens.

7. Performs basic lab tests.

8. Performs specialty specific procedures.

9. Uses CPR skills when required.

10. Maintain clinic exam rooms.

         Clean exam rooms after each patient in preparation for next patient.

         Maintain supplies of otoscope tips, tongue blades, linens, etc.

11. Maintains other supplies and equipment.


Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

          Ability to provide excellent customer service.

          Ability to pay close attention to detail.

          Skill in effective written and verbal communication to interact with varying levels of CHS staff.

          Skill in typing and usage of computer.

          Knowledge of basic office equipment including a multi-line phone system.

          Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.


          Completion of a Medical Assistant Program required.


          Basic Life Support Certification required.

          Current and valid Medical Assistant (AAMA) certification required within 18 months of hire.

          Current and valid Medication Aide Registration with the Nebraska State Medication Aide Registry required, within 90 days of hire.
