Job Description

Just like the children we serve, Children's is growing quickly and hiring a Formulary Management Coordinator in the Pharmacy. The Medication Use and Formulary Management Coordinator, in collaboration with pharmacy, medical and nursing leadership, functions to optimize prescribing and dispensing strategies that ensure the highest quality individual care, improve population health, and minimize cost for targeted medications and disease states.  This role will convene multidisciplinary teams to formulate recommendations, initiatives, and intervention strategies to optimize medication use.  The Formulary Management Coordinator  will serve as a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Specialty Medication Review Team. Additional responsibilities include coordinating presentation of drugs for formulary consideration and medication use evaluations and pharmacoeconomic analyses to the Committees. In addition, the incumbent also serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents as needed.

  • In collaboration with clinical and administrative team members, leads department in cost-containment initiatives specific to patients served by Children’s Hospital & Medical Center.
  • Serves as a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and coordinates presentation of drug monographs, Medication Use Evaluations, and other pertinent quality reports to this Committee.
  • Coordinates evaluation and optimal prescribing, dispensing, and administration of targeted medications.
  • Prioritizes medications / medication classes for analysis and review.
  • Assesses prescribing patterns and appropriateness of use of medications.
  • Conducts pharmacoeconomic analyses of medication use.
  • Partnering with content experts identifies and drafts guidelines for use of select medications.
  • Establishes a monitoring system to assess adherence to guidelines.
  • Anticipates changes in drug development that may impact cost of care.
  • Provides leadership and direction for investigational drug services.
  • Serves as a preceptor for intermediate or advanced pharmacy students. Serves as a preceptor for the pharmacy residency programs.
  • Provides feedback and collaborates with Managers regarding performance evaluations for staff in a timely manner.
  • Serves on hospital and departmental committees as needed.
  • Participates in local, state, and national pharmacy organizations and/or programs related to pharmacy practice.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and skill to work directly with staff in all pharmacist positions, if needed.
  • Monitors, analyzes variance reports, specifically medication related, to identify trends and root cause issues. Maintains accurate data for trending and analysis and takes proactive steps for prevention of medication errors based on data collection.
  • Works with Pharmacy, Nursing and other departments to identify potential measures which prevent medication errors at Children’s.

  1. Performs other duties as assigned



  • Evidence of strong finance, drug information, clinical and leadership skills
  • Verbal and written communications skills sufficient/necessary to receive and deliver information accurately among pharmacy staff and others
  • Previous experience in health care area or unit dose medication preparation helpful but not required
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college or university required
  • PGY1 (Post Graduate Year 1 Residency) and a minimum 3 years’ experience in a pediatric hospital pharmacy or Master’s Degree (MS, MBA, MHA, et al)
  • BCPS (Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist) or BCPPS (Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacotherapy Specialist) within 1 year of employment


  • Current and Valid Nebraska pharmacist license required
  • Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) required
