just like the children we serve, Children's is growing quickly and hiring a Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer to perform ECHOs, EKGs, stress tests, Holter monitor, and event recorders exams for pediatric patients with known and unknown congenital defects or arrhythmias. Review ECHO exams and measurements with physician for interpretation, preparing and delivering final reports. Complete all charging for exams, maintain adequate inventory of supplies and statistical data for area. On-call responsibilities after hours and on weekends to perform studies or provide test results as requested.

Essential Functions/Competencies

Performs ECHOs, EKGs, Holter monitor, and event recorder exams and completes all measurements to produce a report for patients of various ages with congenital heart defects and/or arrhythmias. Responsible to take on-call upon a rotation basis to perform studies or provide test results as requested.

         Perform high quality exams are performed and accurate reports produced the same day as ordered unless otherwise specified by Cardiology physician.

         Echo studies are performed in a method consistent with ASE/ICAEL guidelines or per department protocol.

         Is on site within 30-60 minutes of call back to perform procedures unless otherwise specified by physician.

         Responds to page within 5-10 minutes time frame when on-call for procedures.

         Rotates to outreach/contract sites to perform ECHOs, as requested.

Coordinates smooth flow of procedure, scheduling and completion in inpatient, clinic, outpatient, emergency department, outreach and offsite facilities to meet the needs of the patient/caregiver, physician, and other professionals.

         Procedures are scheduled based on priority of patient needs.

         Procedure is explained to patient and caregiver at an understandable level and in a timely manner.

         Tech is available and ready for patient when they arrive for their procedure preventing any delays.

         All patient paperwork is protected to ensure confidentiality.

Communicates effectively and timely with physician.

         Participates in exam review with the physician for interpretation when points of interest need to be discussed.

         Uses good judgment and skill when determining the need to notify MD of test results prior to patient/tech leaving area.

         Communication is provided in a timely manner and accurately portrays procedure findings.

Coordinates daily functioning of the equipment, supplies and data for efficient department organization.

         Records are complete and maintained accurately. Manual logs are always kept up-to-date.

         Tasks are effectively delegated to other professionals and support staff.

         Par levels of supplies are maintained.

         Equipment is checked, calibrated, and troubleshot according to manufacturer guidelines to verify proper operation.

         Repairs and maintenance needs are reported to supervisor as soon as is reasonable to prevent extended downtime.

          

 

Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

         Knowledge of congenital heart defects preferred

         Typing skills and data entry experience preferred

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

         Requires knowledge of cardiology equipment and procedures at a level normally acquired through completion of 2-4 years of specialized courses beyond high school, as found in an echocardiography program

         Cardiac Sonography Registered (ARDMS) or registry-eligible echo cardiographer with two years echo experience preferred

         Pediatric experience desired

         Completion of Pediatric Registry preferred

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

       

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in Adult Echocardiography (AE) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) is required within 6 months of hire. Current incumbents without RDCS-AE or RCS will be considered grandfathered in
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in Pediatric Echocardiography (PE) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) is required within 18 months of hire
  • Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

         Employees, who are identified as high frequency drivers, must have valid drivers license with an acceptable motor vehicle driving record and ability to provide own transportation
