Job Description

Just like the children we serve, Children's is growing quickly and hiring a System Engineer II who is responsible for a variety of highly complex tasks including the architecture, design, installation, and administration of Children’s computer systems as well as the establishment of comprehensive, high-quality procedures for managing those systems in an enterprise environment.  Explicit focus on architecture and engineering using analytic methods. Develop requirements, standards, and researches new products.  Administer network operating systems and database of users. 

Essential Functions/Competencies

  1. Serves as a subject matter expert for the Epic EMR Citrix environment

  1. Designing, deploying and support large-scale Citrix environment using XenApp, XenDesktop, Storefront, PVS, Netscaler and Citrix Receiver

  1. Design and implement architectures for creating and provisioning a hyper-converged cloud-based architecture with physical and virtual secure servers of multi-tiered HA/Clustered applications and databases using VMWare (ESXi, vCenter), Windows (2012 R2, 2016, 10), and RHEL7

  1. Manage and deploy multiple high availability Citrix Farms, XenApp 7.x and above

  1. Design and implement virtual servers and create a management plan for managing them through VMware vCenter and vRealize Automation (VRA)

  1. Perform task automation through the creation of scripts using languages such as Python, Powershell, etc.

  1. Design and implement SAN and virtualized storage and create a management plan for managing them through VMware vCenter

  1. Maintains department unique applications and databases and ensures the latest versions are in use and that maintenance support has been secured for them.  Maintains oversight of Active Directory database and provides guidance to Helpdesk as needed.  Removes departed users and ensures appropriate disposition of their files.  Tasks are performed in accordance with the applicable published manuals.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Experience acting as a technical lead, preferably in a healthcare environment, in support of a large, complex vendor application
  • Working knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware
  • Experience with Netscaler appliance and general load balancing
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows server environment
  • Familiarity with using various tools like lifecycle management, software distribution, software monitoring – like SCCM, SCOM, Group Policies
  • Solid knowledge and experience with Windows 7/10 and application delivery/packaging solutions
  • Familiarity with PowerShell, or any other form of scripting and automation
  • Knowledge, skill and ability to manage technical projects from design to implementation
  • Knowledge of the principles of systems administration, local and wide area communications, personal computers and peripherals. 
  • Knowledge of file servers, network data switches and other devices that comprise local and wide area network
  • Skill in the operation and maintenance of file servers, personal computers, routers, switches, network operating systems, and the installation and where required, the maintenance of the applications that run on these devices
  • Skill in the application of the Microsoft products and their use in our environment
  • Skill in generating and interpreting test results
  • Ability to generate and execute procedures and plans that facilitate operational changes as they occur 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills
  • Effective planning, organizational, time management and prioritizing skills

     

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Networking, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field required, equivalent work experience systems administer or design experience may be substituted for education
  • Minimum six years of experience working with, and including detailed knowledge of SAN disk storage technology from a major hardware vendor
  • Minimum six years of progressively responsible experience performing Windows system administration duties in a critical production environment, preferably healthcare

     

    CERTIFICATIONS:

  • A certification in Microsoft (MCSA, MCP, or MCTS), Citrix (CCA or CCP) or VMware (VCP-DCV or VCA-DTM) preferred.
  • Epic ESCA certification for BLOB, Business Continuity Access, and Printing, Hyperspace Web, Interconnect, and System Pulse (required within 12 months of hire) or Epic Client Systems Administration Hyperspace Certification required within 12-months of hire.

     

    OTHER RECOMMENDED EPIC TRAINING:

  • Epic Client Systems Administration (ECSA) – MyChart, MyChart Mobile, and EpicCare-Link Certification/Proficiency recommended
  • Epic Client Systems Administration (ECSA) – Care Everywhere Certification/Proficiency recommended
