Job Description

Just like the children we serve, Children's is growing quickly and hiring a Dietetic Technician to be a member of the nutrition team. Provide data collection, patient  education, quality improvement activities, menu/intake calculations and implement nutrition care plans designed by dietitians. Prepare and deliver modified formulas and oversees the inventory of formulas on the patient floors.


Essential Functions/Competencies

Serves as a role model of service excellence.


1.        Orders, receives, stores, and follow-ups as needed and biweekly formula inventory for inpatient and samples.


2.        Implements nutritional plans of care as devised by the dietitians including documented patient interviews/visitations per standard, checking menus for accuracy, and completing admission assessment referrals.


3.        Calculates and documents calorie counts of designated inpatients and outpatients.


4.        Prepares formulas using aseptic technique per recipe and delivers to patient refrigerators/nourishment center.


5.        Completes a monthly inventory of formula and formula supplies in the formula lab and nourishment centers and samples in formula in the Lab and SPC.


6.        Interviews and educates patient/caregivers for food preferences/allergies/drug-nutrient interactions.


7.        Schedules outpatient referrals, including assigned dietitians, room reservations, and physician office referrals.


Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

8.        Performs other duties as assigned





  Knowledge of HACCP Principles

  Knowledge of medical terminology

  Knowledge of basic nutrition and diet therapy principles

  Knowledge of aseptic technique

  Skill in using a computer (e.g., MS Outlook, Excel, and Word, etc.)

  Skill in basic math calculations

  Skill in interviewing patients/caregivers to determine needs/preferences

  Ability to interact with families, visitors, and vendors

  Ability to prepare complex formulas using recipes

  Ability to work with minimal supervision

  Ability to interact with professional staff

  Ability to interact with pantry and cafeteria personnel



  Associates degree from an accredited college or university in dietetic technician studies, culinary arts, or related field required, related work experience may substitute for education.

  Experience working as a dietetic, in nutrition, or food service preferred

  Experience working a healthcare environment preferred



         Current and valid Douglas County Food Handlers Certification required within six months of hire.
